Re: Hello! Newbie looking for advice/support please

Welcome to the madhouse! I must say that Traveller does look promising, make sure its good underneath though! Travellers are wonderfully useful cars, you will soon be carting stuff about in one!

Re: Look before you buy

This is a 10 minute job each side. The dust covers are consumables really and will need changing now and again. You will soon see them during your monthly round with the grease gun.

Lovely! Superb work there, an excellent job.

Also that must be the tidiest garage ever, just the car, ladders and radio!

Re: Cruising speed ?

Out of interest, what is the maximum speed folks have seen in Minors? Mine will sit at 70 all day if I want to and has gone faster with a good wind blowing! It is quite happy to roll along at 60 though. I have only driven the 1098 Minors, none of the other engines.

Re: Starting Handle

Minors are very easy to start on the handle. I ran mine for months with a weak dynamo and had to use the handle most days.. As BMC said, thumb and palm on the same side so if the engine kicks back your thumb will survive, ease it round to the bottom then yank it up. I usually turn the engine over a ...

No need to cry, just run the car up on ramps and release the bonnet catch from underneath.

How about a piece of old inner tube cut to the shape of the badge?

Re: Colour of starting handle?

Starting handles are so useful to have. Ideal for turning the engine over when setting the tappets, points and timing.

And for starting the engine sometimes... I got some funny looks at the petrol station last time I did it! (weak dynamo..)

Hope this doesn't push up the prices of pre 1960s vehicles, or lead to restrictions on their use.

Quite funny. Notice how every car chase has to involve a big pile of cardboard boxes!

Has it got compression? Perhaps the valve clearances are too tight.

Re: cover

Ive been using covers from a company called B&R Components for my Reliant, Minis and Wolseley 1550 (a cover for an Austin Cambridge fitted the Wolseley nicely). They do a cover for the Minor for 44.99, these are Tybond covers and so far have been very good. I've had expensive covers in the past ...

Re: Worst Accessory Ever ????????

I've always hated wing mirrors on Minors, or on any other car to be honest. They are absolutely useless, they spoil the look of the car, damage a car cover and provide vandals with something to tug at.
