Re: marina caliper
If you do disassemble the callipers, I would suggest applying a little 'red rubber grease' to the piston rubber seal on the re-build.

I'm fairly sure I have some spare 2nd hand pistons available if you require them. PM me if you need any.

Re: HIF 38 Tuning
Worth checking that the jet moves up or down, (and isn't seized) when adjusting the mixture. You can confirm this by removing the dash-pot/piston, and as you turn the mixture screw, you'll notice the the jet tube should rise or fall according to which way the screw is turned. As for jet and needle s...

Re: What is the difference between these two cylinder heads?
I see 'minispares' sell a larger inlet valve for the small bore engine. '12G296' is listed. Quite a bit of work would be required if you were to do it yourself. As well as a Valve seat cutter, a carbide burr set and maybe a copy of the 'Vizard',
And also a head skim.

Re: Later valve guide oil seal
I have bought a set of the 'minispares' valve (bullet-nosed) guides in the past. Yes they do have two grooves at the top for the 'top-hat' seal fitment. Don't know why there are two grooves though. They are also much longer than the standard. So, they look like they need to be shortened. Perhaps, th...

Re: Bypass metal tube
If the bolt is a tight fit, then it should be ok. I did a similar thing but on the water pump by-pass outlet. If you have access to a welder, I 'sleeved' a big nut over the remnants of the by-pass pipe, and welded them together. Thus, I was able to undo the nut/old by-pass stub together. It took two...

Re: It was the coil
I have a Lucas sports coil and indeed, if it is mounted horizontally, it leaks oil out of the top. Although, this may have something to do with me dropping it! Anyway, I 'epoxyed' the seal and mounted back to the vertical (where it had been for 5 years prior to dropping it) It may be that your coil ...

Re: diff
Just out of interest. This axle on ebay is likely to have a Diff of 4.1/1 ratio. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131092322785? ... 1423.l2649 . It's the same axle as used on the Dolomite (part of the same family).

Re: diff
Do you know what the Diff ratio is at the moment? The Marina/Dolomite (but not sprint) axles came with a choice of 4.1, 3.9 and 3.6 to 1. And the ital 2.0 auto had a 3.3/1 ratio. Also, and I cannot absolutely guarantee, but the later Spitfire and Vitesse uses a very similar Diff unit (it has a sligh...

I would be more inclined to fit the entire Reliant engine and gearbox if you had it! Aluminium block and very much a popular conversion in an Austin 7 'sports' version.

Re: side valve to 1098?
The later series 11 splitty with the 803cc Austin engine still retained the original 'Morris' axle (and brakes). So you'd need the prop-shaft to go with your 1098 engine and box combo. Well, assuming that the differential flange wasn't altered with the change over to the new model.

Re: Fast road / race 1098 - your thoughts please.
Just thought I'd add to this. Although, you do get a full set of 3 cam bearings for the 1100 - the 950 has bigger (wider @3mm each) 'mains' bearings and journals. As a consequence the mains end-caps are larger and also the locating dowels are bigger too. Added to that, you can pick up second hand mi...

If you don't have the huge trunking on the bulk head (pre 1962ish), a servo can be mounted there. Although, you would need to move the bonnet pull a couple of inches over to make space.

I've a 998 with similar set up + a mildly moded 12G202 head and can get a fraction over 40mpg and I still get to drive it quite enthusiastically.
Deffo think you need some carb adjustment, as stated.

Re: What similar parts to Triumph 1300 Dolly
If you are going to break it. The axle is fairly desirable as it is slightly shorter than the Marina one but the wheel nut spacing is different to a Minor. You'd have to weld new axle perches on to make fit. The differential should be 4.1:1 ratio. And also the the front hubs, if they are discs, I be...

Re: What similar parts to Triumph 1300 Dolly
Do you have the whole Dolly 1300 or just the engine and ancillaries? The one thing I noticed about a 25d that I got from a Dolly was that it didn't have an oil seal ring on the distributor shaft.
I have since fitted it to my Morris and I wouldn't say that it leaks much oil, if any.

Re: Stub axle removal
I have not fitted Marina stub axles. I currently have marina hubs fitted to a standard minor stub axles with the spacers that can be purchased from a Morris factors. All I have done so far is have a Marina hub (inboard bearing) machined out in order to fit the 30205 bearing. And so, there will be no...
