Re: noise difference
Maybe consider damping out some of the noise. Good underlay and carpets can help, renewing suspension damper oil can smooth the ride out, replacing my old cross-plies with radial tyres improved things a little too. Good advice. Small details make a difference, check that all apertures in the bulkhe...

Re: noise difference
As above. Plus the fact that the 948 is acknowledged to be smoother than the 1098. Older Minors were less plasticky, perhaps the choice of materials for car interiors made them feel more refined. I've owned all series of post-war Minors and I would say that the side valve 918 was the sweetest runner...

Lowlight with heater !
https://www.gumtree.com/p/other-vehicles/-1950-rare-classic-morris-minor-series-mm-low-light./1408028598 Nice looking lowlight for sale on Gumtree. Interesting plumbing for heater installation, see photo no. 18. Water pump seems to run off pulley adjacent to dynamo. Presumably no thermostat, so I im...

Re: New Fuel Problem
Just thinking aloud here, and trying to keep things positive . If non-E10 becomes unavailable, or if Ethanol content is pushed up to 15% or even more, there must be some straightforward modifications which will become necessary as problems occur in classic cars in the future. After a bit of on-line ...

Re: New Fuel Problem
How are we going to keep our cars on the road with E5 fuel being replaced by E10? As of now a local petrol station only has E10 It's a disaster. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332743797254?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338624526&toolid=10001&customid=7f5aa8dd63a08e...

Re: points again
Thanks Basil. Would you make any changes to timing if changing from unleaded petrol to super unleaded? It is possible that using higher Octane fuel will permit a slight advance in timing. This can result in improved performance and economy. The other (highly topical) advantage of premium grade fuel...

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/girl-15-killed-crash-after-24522520 On the theme of liability for driving vehicle with known "defective" condition, here's an interesting (and obviously tragic) case of driver being charged for ignoring fuel warning light. This could actually open a hu...

Re: Clutchless changes
As a matter of interest, I remember a clutch linkage/hydraulic (?) failure on a Mondeo many years ago. The synchro's "clutch" in first gear was strong enough to get the car rolling on the level by easing the gear lever forward, with engine running, but not quite engaging gear until equival...

Re: Clutchless changes
Depends on circumstances. There's nothing pointless about driving home clutchless on a lonely road at 3 am rather than a long wait for rescue. On the other hand I wouldn't fancy my chances in the rush hour in a busy city!

With engine stopped, either:
Put into first and operate the starter, or
Roll start downhill or with a push from a helpful bystander

Re: 803 engine. How fragile?
I vaguely remember hearing that BMC Gold Seal exchange reconditioned engines addressed some of the flaws in the originals. Gold Seal engines were reckoned to be better than the originals across the BMC range (theory was that engine reconditioners were more skilled and diligent than the builders of t...

What I would like to add would be some 66yr old patina, not quite sure how to go about that.
