Re: What do you want me to tell you?
Personally, I'd like to see the MMOC commit to maintaining this forum, as it is an invaluable source of information that has built up over more than a decade. I agree, unfortunately there are others who are obsessed with the numbers on facebook.... I am delighted to report that as a result of the a...

Re: Vedette Marine BMC Engine - What electronic ignition should I use
There will always be a debate between those in favour of points and those voting for electronic. Both have their own advantages. The usual advice offered is to consult the Distributor Doctor.

Re: No Fuel to fuel pump.
It could be that the pick-up tube in the tank has sheared off or become blocked, there might be an air leak at the tank to pipe joint or the pipe to pump joint. Disconnect the metal pipe from the pump and blow down it. Is there a bit of resistance and can you hear bubbling from the tank as the air e...

Re: Advice please, new owner, hiding contents of Traveller
You are not the first to ask this question, and you won't be the last. There is no standard solution, but wherever you find a number of Travellers parked together (cue collective noun thread) you will see a variety of solutions. Over the years I have seen (and used) variations on roller blinds, fabr...

Re: Clutch part
The Minor had a purely mechanical clutch linkage, so the slave cylinder is not a Minor part. Different cylinders can be used. Hopefully someone will recognise the part number and tell you what your one is from.

Re: Stainless exhaust
The problem is that there are so many different exhausts, and each has its own note. I use stainless on three Minors, each sounds slightly different, two make the classic "parp" sounds, one doesn't. None of them, to me, sound aggressive. They've been on the cars so long that I have no idea...

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
Elaine, just to reassure you, if a Minor is looked after properly, then it is fine for daily commuting. I did it for over 40 years in various Minors, 18,000 miles a year; plus holidays all over the country. I can't say that we never had any problems (anything mechanical will fail at some point) but ...

Re: Interior courtesy light
Is it an original light? How many positions on the switch? Perhaps off, auto and on? I suggest remove the fitting and check the wiring. There should be a supply, a permanent earth, and an earth via the switches in the door pillar. Clean the contacts in the switch and also the bulb, check operation o...

I understand that the Derby Office can still supply the CD, not sure about a paper copy. I don't think that it has been updated, but then the cars are still the same, so the book is still relevant.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
I know that you're getting used to the choke, but a Minor in good condition will usually start first turn of the key; so I suggest a service might be in order. Don't replace parts just for the sake of it, but check and replace if required things like plugs and points, and set all gaps and timing. Ch...

Its best use-case at the moment is perhaps to replace more customer service staff and make it even more difficult to phone up a company to solve a problem! And that's the best use? Goodness only knows what the worst example might be! Such systems should be banned and companies forced to employ an a...

Re: Front seat belt
Yes, the loose end of the belt has a metal fitting with a hole in it. That should fit on a stepped spacer and a long machine screw (bolt) goes through the base of the reel then through the belt end and the spacer and finally into the captive nut on the sill. The spacer prevents the belt being clampe...

No, Martha/Mike had it in Parts for Sale, but I've moved it to Electrical. We never hold accidental mis-posting against anyone, so I hope that the issue gets resolved. If the lamp is illuminated, then it must be getting power from somewhere. If it's flashing, then that has to be the flasher unit - r...

And until the DVLA change their policy (again) an historic vehicle converted to electric is likely to have its registration number voided and then be issued with a Q-plate.

Re: Cutting out if choke on for a bit too long
As above. Plus, the choke will not affect the fuel pump, so do not fiddle with the pump unless there is a definite fault. When did you last change the air filter? If that is blocked then it can cause poor running, so have a look and see if it is dirty. If yes, then a replacement is only a few pounds...

Re: Partially draining water from engine
It depends on what's been fitted. Most good radiators have a tap at the bottom, close to the bottom hose. The engines may have a drain tap or a screw in plug, rear left hand side about half way down the block. Do not unscrew the wrong bit! Hopefully someone will pst a photo for you. You could also r...
