Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
YES, there is a winter/summer setting: The air filter casing can be rotated so that in the summer the intake tube is pointing away from the exhaust whilst in the winter it is rotated so that it draw warm air from immediately above the exhaust. To make the rotation, simply loosen the wing nut on top...

Re: Heater
Let's hope the garage give the system a good flush-out while they're at it. Won't take long. I’ve rang him and asked him to do this and he said he’d have done it anyway, and yes it’s the thermostat that’s knackered, he said no the wonder it’s cold in the car the stat was seized completely so he’s o...

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
No. The choke is what allows for temperature variations from summer to winter - if its cold, you will need the choke, or more choke. Once the engine warms up its warmed up, winter or summer, and the fuel mixture should be consistent. It will just take longer to warm up in winter.

Re: Which is the exact model in the attached picture?
Except that the MM model did use M-embossed chrome hub caps from the latter part of 1951 until the end of production......

Re: Which is the exact model in the attached picture?
Hello Fabrizio. Its hard to say whether it is a MM sidevalve model or an early Series II with the 803cc overhead valve engine. Were it possible to take a look under the bonnet to see the engine,or even take a look at the bonnet flash, it would be easy to identify as one or the other.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
Excellent! Use of the choke merely entails an understanding of what it does and why, and a bit of practice/experience.

Re: seats
It may be helpful for John to check out the Newton Commercial seat covers etc. As I mentioned before, I believe his green seats to be from 1956 -1959
Check these: https://newtoncomm.co.uk/collections/mo ... 000+_seats

Re: seats
Those seats look like from an early 1000, the SII ones were more curved, especially the back-rests. But yours won't look very out of place in a SII. Some of the SII seats were also used in the early 1000's, I guess to use them up.

Re: Radweld
Hi, I see that, like my replacement, yours has a plastic overflow pipe rather than the nice brass pipe on my old one. It also had a nice brass tap but the replacement has a rather more flimsy looking one. It'll do the job though and the old tap was seized up anyway so I could never use it. I might h...
Re: Radweld
OK, so the rad leak I mentioned earlier started yet again and thus I decided to go for a brand-new rad than mess about with more Bars. Just as well, by the state of the old one when I pulled it out! I also confirmed that the water pump had quite a bit of play in the bearings so I replaced that at th...

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
A way to tell if the engine has warmed up enough to return the choke - if you don't know from experience - is to turn the heater fan on. When warm air starts blowing from the heater the engine is warmed up so that the choke is no longer needed.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
Hello Elaine, Consider this as an example of choke use. I needed full choke to start this morning but almost immediately set to half-choke when the car was out on the drive. After half a mile, or so, I put the choke back fully and everything was fine. I drove for about 15 miles, by which time, of co...

Re: What oil filter
Unless the OP has gone and bought himself a MM sidevalve. I believe these earliest cars did use EP90 in the gearbox......but, yes, if it has an A-series engine then the gearbox oil will be 20/50 engine oil.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start
2 hours 40 mins (even 90 mins) is enough for the engine to go cold, especially in winter. A little choke would have probably been in order. Regards flooding, as PTH pointed out much earlier in this thread - 'If you feel that the engine is flooding due to over use of the choke - press the accelerator...

Re: Intermittent Misfire (distributor rotor)
Well, I suppose anything can fail at any time, and some NOS is very old now - the rotor material may have gone brittle. But if you think it got 'burnt' from being 'too hot', then the question is why did it get too hot? But I'm thinking it was just too old and brittle and started breaking up a bit.
