Thanks for your photos and knowledge! It does make a lot of sense what you say about the subtil diferencies in shade found on parts sourced from several suppliers and put toghether on the same car. Having said this, it's a fact that most cars we see on books have been restored and "dilligently ...

The steering wheel isn't the same colour as the dash, in fact I don't think the steering column bracket is the same shade either. The steering wheel is a light browny bakelite, the steering column and bracket is a dull gold and the dash a nice shiny gold colour. When I wrote "steering wheel&qu...

Courtesy interior light

Hi,

Can someone tell me if early Series II (January 1954) had the courtesy interior light operated by opening the doors or was that found only on later models?

Thanks,
Pedro

Small details...

Hi, I've just recieved today an original early Series II steering wheel that I bought from ESM. It looks great but I was a bit surprised with the shade of gold... I thought it was a lighter shade.... This is especially important due to the fact that I should paint the steering column and the dashboa...

Aren't these little details the ones that make classic cars fun?

There is clearly no definite truth here, it seams! I investigated this matter further (basicaly re-read Original Morris Minor by Ray Newell...) and he states the following: - In 1952 the Austin and Morris brands were merged into the British Motor Corporation , under Lord Nuffield. As a consequence, ...

What efficiency! I hardly had the time to log out and the answer was there! So, you're saying that both MM's and cheasegreater grilled Series II had the same bonnet fittings (same symbol and chrome flash)... interesting! I was really convinced otherwise... When did they change to the later style fit...

Bonnet fittings

Hi, Can anyone shed some light regarding bonnet fittings? I was under the understanding that MM moggies had a bonnet top chrome flash and the smaller morris symbol but series II had a different and slighty larger symbol and a top bonnet badge with a red "m" on the sides, without the flash....

Pin-stripe

Hi there,

I'm finishing the restoration of an early Series II (January 1954) 4-door saloon. The car is black with maroon interior. My questions is:

- Should it have a pin-stripe?
- If so, what colour? Red or maroon? Witch kind of red or maroon?

Many thanks,
Pedro

My seat have the "narrow pleat" as jaekl mentions but are not folding. I think (though not sure..) that 4-door saloons never were equiped with folding seats (there was no point really!). On the other hand, the front ones, have the round "bucket-style" back, similar to the MM Seri...

Dear Bill, I'm a bit confused with this seat/piping issue! I consulted Ray Newell's "Original Morris Minor" book as well as some internet sites and concluded the following: - Contrasting seats piping was discontinued in 1951 in MM models. - The fact that the seat have leather facings indic...

Dear Judge, Today I've unearthed the seats that had been put away since the begining of the restoration (2 years ago...) and realized something that puzzled me: The seat facings are in maroon leather (both front and rear, both seat and back) and the rest of the seat is Vynil but, the front seat's pi...

Doubts regarding interior

Dear friends,

I have some doubts regarding the restoration of my 1954 early Series II. The car is black with maroon interior so I ask you, experts:

- Was the headlining grey or beije/fleck?
- Were the carpets red, independently of the seats being red or maroon?

Thanks,
Pedro
