Re: Put a tiger in your tank - not ethanol!

With a tank the size of the minor avoiding ethanol isn't going to be possible for many people! We would therefore advise anyone who has concerns about the presence of ethanol in petrol to use Synergy Supreme+ – providing they do not fill up in Devon or Cornwall, the Teesside area, Scotland or NW Eng...

Re: Number Plate Style

Thanks for the replies. I've got a while to think about it but I think I'm going to go for the yellow and white plates. Perhaps it's just because I'm used to it but I like the way the yellow plate looks against the Trafalgar Blue. Also, I've got lots of pictures of the car (holidays, my wedding, my...

Re: ETHANOL CHANGES

I'd read about fuel stabilisers for petrol lawn mowers laid up over winter and thought it would benefit the Morris too. A bit difficult to know if it has any effect or not but the braided rubber hose from the pump was a bit soft and swollen before I started using it, will it slow deterioration of th...

I bought Bailcast steering rack gaiters and their came with cables ties so you should be fine. Getting the old metal clip off was a pain.

Re: Advice on Alternative Seats

JLH will do a bespoke version of their seat base and all you have to do is bolt the bases to the car and your chosen seat to the runner supports. No welding needed.

Re: Disc brakes

Whilst a Minor is never going to get a Euro Ncap rating it did have good safety features for its day. The position of the steering rack in theory didn't require a collapsible column as in event of a crash it should pivot away from the driver. Not sure I'd want to test it out first hand. Disc brakes ...

It might be worth having a read through this post from earlier in the year as it covers a possible upgrade. https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=71446&hilit=12g940 It's a subject which has been covered a fair bit in the past- just search 12G940. You'll find various views ...

Re: Preferred Radio location on 1970 Minor

The sound quality isn't perfect but I fitted a Bluetooth amplifier under the passenger seat. Can stream music from phone to the car speakers that are in the front foot well panels. All is pretty much hidden away and invisible without looking closely. The reviewer seems to have had much more trouble ...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

I still had the offcut of pipe in the garage, measured it with calipers and it measured as 5mm outside diameter. The 3/16 flaring tool did the job but checking just now it did feel quite loose in the bore. I've done some Googling and can't work out if both 3/16 and 5mm pipe exist or if they are the ...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

Arjay, You can send an email to Jonathan at JLH, he's very helpful and never seems to take long to reply. He sent me a sketch and an email explaining the pipework modifications when I fitted the brake fluid reservoir. info@jlhmorrisminors.co.uk I bought a secondhand Bluepoint flaring kit on eBay and...

Re: Brakelight Switch Replacement

I read some where ages ago that the VW switches were better quality than the Lucas ones for the Minor so I ordered one of these from ECP. Price has doubled in last 5 yrs.

Used in conjunction with LED bulbs which reduces the current being drawn.

Re: Heated rear screen wiring?

There's a good thread from years ago. With these discussions you need to read it all to get all the info on wiring diagram, relay, cable size, fuses but it is there. Until reading it I hadn't considered a relay could fail closed so having the tell tale on the heated window circuit may be best. https...

Re: fuel

Unfortunately finding Ethanol free fuel depends which refinery the base fuel comes from and where you live in the country. Below is copied from Esso website. "What is the ethanol content of your fuels? The majority of unleaded 95 Octane petrol sold in the UK contains up to 5% ethanol as require...

Re: Advice Needed Please

I had a strange pool of oil under the car before which I couldn't find an obvious reason for, it turned out a steering rack gaiter had split and let all the oil out. Although that shouldn't be as far forward as you have described?
Doubt it's brake fluid as you'd find that out pretty quick!

Re: Insanity and indicator switches

I had to do this job a couple of years ago and with new switch the indicators worked fine but the horn stopped working. It turned out the new earth connection was slightly bent and not making proper contact. I'm sure you'll check the indicators work but good to check the horn does too. Learned the h...

I was reading a back issue of Practical Classics this week and it had an article on Vauxhall FDs. Most of these seem to standard autos and a manual box was an option. Not sure I've seen one any time recently. Ventora looks interesting although 3.3l is a bit over your brief. https://www.classiccars4s...

Can't answer your question about compatibility with +ve earth but all wiring diagrams seem to show sender going to earth. I have the Smiths capillary gauge in my car, it is more expensive but adding up cost of electric gauge, sender and voltage stabiliser it may not be that much more? This seller on...
