Re: "Morris Minor Driving Instruction"

I agree with that too. In the latest issue of Practical Classics it describes the Moggie as sluggish, I think they can be quite nippy. Speaking of the Vauxhall Corsa... think how many young people have learnt to drive in these and had one as a first car, I think in the future there will be some aff...

Re: Oil Pressure Query

I think I might be mistaken. As I have a 1968 Minor 1000, is the orange warning light on the speedo in fact an oil filter warning light and not an oil pressure warning light? There is a wire which goes directly to the area of the filter. Forgive my ignorance, I'm learning every day, but what does th...

Re: Oil Pressure Query

OK thank you for the advice. Just to give some more background - the car is not losing oil, but the sump is quite overfilled - probably about an inch or so more than the 'MAX' mark on the dip stick. After the light extinguished last night, and I assumed all was well, I drove a 30 mile round trip and...

Re: Stalling and kangaroos! Help!

I had similar symptoms to you when I had my Austin Metro - it would only run on the choke - although for me the problem was actually due to the petrol being contaminated with water. Hopefully this is not the case for you! Fuel pumps can be intermittent; I've had first-hand experience :(, but on the ...

Oil Pressure Query

Yesterday evening when I started the car, the oil pressure warning light would not extinguish as it would normally within a couple of seconds. Having "ummed and ahhed" about why this was happening, I wondered whether it was because the car was parked on a steepish hill. So, I started again...

Re: "Morris Minor Driving Instruction"

I can never relate to people who speak of Minors as though they're slow, as was implied earlier in this thread. I can see that there is a point to be made with respect to the older models, however mine (a 1098cc like the driving instructor's) easily cruises at 70mph and has just as good an initial a...

An infuriating discovery

Just got back from being on a milk round all night, and have had the misfortune to discover that some little sh*t has ripped one of my mirrors off and, in the process, completely shattered the glass of my driver's side quarterlight. It makes me so unbelievably cross :x to think about it it's unreal....

Re: Historic definition to be redefined in Europe.

Whatever happens, should any proposed future legislation in the UK purport to impose any such restrictions on the use of classic cars, I for one will help to protest against it vehmently: the status quo is fine.

Re: Merry Christmas Morris Minor

Copied to my MP3 so I can listen to it on the way to work Monday will make the prospect of an 8 hour shift in Sainsburys more bearable  Snap - I'm working in Sainsbury's tomorrow, 6am - 2pm :-( . I notice you come from North Walsham - I think we spoke about this online before - I'll be coming ...

Re: Merry Christmas Morris Minor

My aunty just told me about this programme on the phone, and I just listened to it on iplayer. I thought it was quite good - it was nice that they actually broadcast them driving in a Minor, without blotting out the sound of the engine and gearbox etc - which is what I find too often happens on TV a...

Re: Winter driving

Fair enough if you're that worried about the rust, however I'm with the others and as far as I'm concerned it's a car that's supposed to be driven and enjoyed - whatever the weather! (Not that I have a choice seeing as the Minor's my only car... :-) )

Sounds like it's only a matter of time before it happens again...

I've learned my lesson though, I will keep up with the regular checks.

Re: Will a alternator help?

I have a similar situation happen to me on cold mornings; the engine turns over very slowly, but fortunately for me the car still starts first time - no repeated cranking required. All I need is the choke pulled out. However, from past experience, I think a good service (e.g. cleaning plugs, regappi...

Re: Early morning brake failure... and a lucky escape

It seems like I had EXTREMELY favourable circumstances then, considering the hurrendous situations some of you have been in without the luxury of brakes! It's worrying that some of you got no prior warning at all. I can only wait and see the results of the mechanic's inspection... btw I've got a whi...

Re: Early morning brake failure... and a lucky escape

You were certainly unlucky there - I take it you didn't get much prior warning, like I did? My rear handbrake is still strong so I'm guessing the problem either lies at the front or a leaking union... we'll have to see. It's a pig when you're a student, with nowhere to do the work yourself and not a...

Early morning brake failure... and a lucky escape

I had a rude awakening today, as I was driving to work at 5:30 this morning. Got in the car - and quickly realised that I was having to virtually stand on the brake pedal in order to get the car to stop! Anyway, having proceeded a short while longer - carefully I hasten to add - I went to slow down ...

Re: Door Malalignment

Thank you all for your ideas. I had a go this afternoon with the help of a friend, and we've managed to solve the problem insofar as adjusting the door so that it now closes reasonably well. I suspect the problem is, as suggested, a culmination of things. There is a lot of play in the hinge itself, ...

Door Malalignment

Hi all, A gust of strong wind caught my door as I was opening it the other day, and since that time the driver's door (on my 2-door saloon) appears to have dropped so that the window frame strikes the upper quarter of the B-pillar to the rear of the door, leaving an abnormally large gap along the to...
