Cheers for that - it's the spanner size I was after. Glad to help Andrew. Just replying really to make sure the "quotes" work now after help from Cam - thanks Cam. :) I know not everyone has them, but I usually use a couple of suitably sized "D" shackles connected together, the ...

The bolts are not Whitworth, we've been here before! 8) They are 3/8" BSF x 3 1/8" long (non standard length) the bolt head thickness is reduced to 1/8" or slightly more to clear the torsion bar. Spanner/socket size is 5/16" Whitworth. There are postings elsewhere re moving the t...

Could there be an excessive build of carbon above the valve cones as this has occured in three of four cylinders? I have experienced this before but not with a Minor.
But mainly it's been down to lack of lubrication.

Mike - it shouldn't be the case in theory, but on the last two occasions I've replaced sealed beams with halogen kits it has been necessary to have the beams adjusted. If you've a Moggie friendly MOT tester, like mine, then it might be worth having the alignment checked after you've done the job. My...

I've not seen one for a while but there used to be a screwdriver available, probably still is somewhere, which had a three pronged "gripper" on the end. You inserted the tip (straight or Philips) and at the same time pushed a button on the handle, then released and gripped the screw head. ...

That's o.k. Kevin I don't fancy changing them again so soon. I'll wait until the gumshield disintegrates! Or they do.
but can anyone get spare screws of the correct size?
4BA - readily available, would probably need cutting to length. BA sizes are "oddball" the higher the number the smaller the diameter, :-?

Definitely 2BA on five old 25D distributors I have lying around and on those fitted to both my cars.
But anyway, whatever size they might be, if the correct thread socket head screws aren't available then your solution will be the easiest i.e. drill and tap for M5. Which are readily available.

2 BA or not 2BA, that is the question. :-? sorry.

It's a 2BA thread so don't know how difficult they would be to obtain with a hex. socket head?
Excellent idea though.

If it turns out that the damper is passed it's sell by rather than just requiring an oil top up then, if finances permit, it could be worth changing them both. Chances are the other one is of a similar vintage.

Discounting the numbers cast into the block of a Minor 1000 you could say that model fulfils both. 948cc Minor 1000, rounded up. 1098cc Minor 1000, rounded down. :-? So could well have been Minor 1100 when engine uprated :o
