Look at the Trav sideways and think of the structure. If the wood doesn't form a rigid frame you've basically got a long beam flexing back from the B post, far too much stress for it to last very long, even if isn't corroded.

Re: Low budget spraying technique
I did an Escort with an Electrolux type gun. Looked like I'd pebble dashed it, but think that was down to not understanding how to use thinners rather than the gun......

Traveller doors are indeed identical to two door - but there aren't that many out there that don't need repairing. If you find two good pairs let me know!

Just search for Neil MG on the restos section. Shows how really clearly.

Re: The dying traveller that refuses to die, restoration started
Apologies to the OP for wandering off topic, but I'm sure that many on here will join me in wishing Alan and his family much better luck next year. And I can now cut into my wood without having to worry about trying to salvage any for him!

Having a roof over his head would have been a treat, he mainly travelled by bike in those days. Didn't do him too much harm, though - he was in good health for most of nearly ninety years.

Re: Part rotten underfloor cross member - short term fix?
I did my complete cross member from above after removing a wide strip of floor both sides,. I'd already done the sill structures and I knew I would be doing all the floor pans, which I'm halfway through.. It only went on the ramps at the rear, mainly to remove the prop shaft. I will be rolling it so...

MM Tourer - where it all began...
I've always said that the Minor's transmission whine is like the sound of the womb to me. The earliest car I can remember was my grandmother's Rose Taupe saloon from the mid fifties, but this weekend I found this while sorting through my parents' photographs. My Dad is looking very pleased, but it's...

Re: 2door convertible restoration
Newton Commercials are high quality but far from cheap - the interior could cost more than the value of the car. Really best suited for very comprehensive restos for owners with plenty of readies. Best to concentrate your cash on getting it solid. As Redmoggy says look carefully at the sill areas. C...

They certainly have a lot of confidence in their approach. I'd have been far too nervous to cut so much of the structure away without any bracing.

Re: Stripping or chassis?
Well.....the Minor doesn't really have a chassis as such, being monocoque. The floor pans are supported on the sill structures, the centre cross member and the chassis legs (how can it have chassis legs if it don't have a chassis?!!) You would usually sort out the sills first, then the cross member ...

Re: Repairing door bottoms, 2 door.
I find Phil's DVD's a bit too rough and ready in their approach, although this is one of the better ones. Haven't done my doors yet, but I like the look of the panel bonding technique on here in Barrie's Project by Westy24. Sorry, haven't worked out how to copy the link to a thread......

Re: Weld through primer
Thanks everyone. Redmoggy's technique is pretty much what I do, and has mostly worked OK with the primer in place. But I was not well pleased when I realised I had a couple of bad'uns and had to drill out and start again. Might just have not taken enough care with the settings, but when I saw NeilMG...

Weld through primer
I've a feeling that I'm about to be shouted at, but I' m starting to question whether I should be obsessively priming before welding, as I have up till now. I was consulting NeilMG's resto thread, yet again, when I came across a suggestion from him that in the context of plug welds weld-through prim...

I regularly complain to the lads at the railway - that if they had taught me joinery and welding at skool - it would have been a dam site more useful then the ****** Latin and History......... Snap! Re: LBM Models ?
I've arrived a bit late, as usual. Bit of a strange debate all round. I think BMC makes a particularly valid point about sill strengtheners - you could only insert these prior to fitting the boxing plate, couldn't you? (I have a traveller, not a convertible, but believe they used the same strengthen...

Edd, When you hit the engine mounting alignment problem I actually drafted you a message which can be summarised as "what a shame, forget the car, which can't possibly be done in time, now get on with the wedding which is far more important." I didn't send it because I decided the last thi...
