Re: Starting problem - please help
I am baffled. I know for a fact that the leads on my car are correct - she runs like a dream. So if you duplicate the order mine are in you should be fine. But if you say the leads won't reach....then....???

Re: Starting problem - please help
Well, that's strange. I just went and checked mine to be sure (I have a side entry dizzy as well) and the way I describe is the way it should be.

Re: Starting problem - please help
OK I see the problem. The lead you have currentlygoing to number two should be going to number one. Then, 3-4-2 anticlockwise from there.

Re: A good mornings work
Thanks MBO. Just noticed you have an Empie Green Series II which you bought in 1985. Same year I bought mine!

Re: Starting problem - please help
That number one lead looks awfully stretched! Maybe the order is wring, hard to tell from the pic. And no air filter? Was it taken off just for the pics?

Re: cheesgrater grill
Not the cheese grater Series II Mike. Wiper motor is in the dash, same as MM's the cheese grater Series II has the same dash as the MM. The motor was moved to the engine bay with the new dash design. Also the coil on this one seems to be on the generator, not up on the firewall. I'd put money on it ...

Re: cheesgrater grill
The car with the unusual grill has the wiper motor in the engine bay, pointing to it being a late Series II or even a 1000 ( can't see the screen but presume its a splittie). My guess is maybe the grill on the car is not factory fitted, but fitted at a later stage and, as the the car already has sid...

Re: Starting problem - please help
It really shouldnt be this hard! There must be something very basically and fundamentally wrong. If you've got sparks at the plugs, and petrol in the carby the damn thing should at least kick! Even if the plugs are in the wrong order you would still at least get it to cough. Have you had all the plu...

A good mornings work
Just finished full service, grease and oil change plus wash and polish inside and out on my Series II. So thought I'd sow off with a few pictures of the finished article :D http://i398.photobucket.com/albums/pp64/DBHS1977/0d2287dc959f360e9dbb83c66e4a99cd.jpg http://i398.photobucket.com/albums/pp64/D...

Re: Running in.
It's an Ellison Hawkes. What I love about these old period books is finding which jobs the previous owner carried out, identified by the pages which are covered in oily finger marks!

Re: Running in.
Yes, it's the Cassell's book of the Series II published 1960. In the days before workshop manuals these little books offered the owner information that went beyond the owners manual. Yes, the style of writing is wonderful, so correct and polite.

Re: Long run improves running - why?
No, it's not lack of noises. The engine was definitely running a little more smoothly and was more responsive than it had been previously. I presume it's due to the de-coking of the engine, but my question is why does this happen after a long drive and why did owners have to manually decoke the head...

Re: Cruising speed ?
Well, I would prefer not to but sometimes unavoidable. As I say, cars and trucks behind can always pass. I don't think anyone was behind me for more than 2-3 minutes

Re: Cruising speed ?
Just came across this post. Don't really agree that driving at 50 mph (80 kmh) on Aussie motorways is "dangerous" it's only 20 k's below the limit and easy for cars behind to pass. I just today came in on the M4, then onto M7 and M5 doing a tad under 50mph and it was fine.

Long run improves running - why?
Just completed another nice long country drive, about 400 miles round trip. Today I did about 130 miles in one go, and this included some heavy hill climbing (down to second gear) and some long stints of motorway cruising. I noticed that towards the second half of this long stint the car was running...

Re: 850 water pump
Mounting points totally different n the 803 pump, so the 950 not possible. I had the same problem with the pulley on the shaft on a new pump from a very well known supplier. Basically badly made. I had the original rebuilt and no problems since.

Re: Poly bushes
Well, mine squeaked terribly until I pulled them apart again and covered them with red grease (same as used on brake cylinders). They were silent for a time and now have a small amount of noise. I think it's just the nature of them.
