Re: water pump bypass pipe
Thanks, I thought the engineers must have had a good reason. Just a question on thermostats - if and when they fail do they stay open or closed? And either way what is the damage that can be caused?

Re: water pump bypass pipe
I guess my question really is - if the pipe can be blocked off without any effect on the operation of the cooling system, why was it included in the original design? Surely there must be reason it's there?

Re: Split Screen Windscreen
I fitted my 803 rear screen myself with my wife's assistance and found it quite easy. The front screen however was something else. I ended up handing the job over to a windscreen company (who specialized in older vehicles) and it took the two of them three hours of swearing and grunting, and even th...

Re: water pump bypass pipe
I'm curious - if the bypass is so useless why was it included in the original design?

Re: Vibration
The place is called Propeller Shaft Services in Ilma St Bankstown. They also replaced the uni joints for me as the ones I'd fitted were pretty low quality and had some movement. Like I say, absolutely transformed the car.

Re: Vibration
I had my propshaft professionally balanced - absolutely transformed the car! I wasn't aware how much the chassis was vibrating at 50mph until it was gone. Best money I think I ever spent on the car!

Re: sump gasket
Well, might be worth a try I guess. But I have found that quite often suppliers will list a part as beng suitable for the 803 or MM (of which mine is the combination being a very early Series II) when n actual fact they are not. Most recent example was the front spring hanger pin for the rear suspen...

Re: Series MM wheel cylinders
The early front cylinders have different backplates ( with a circular hole, not a rectangular one) and the thread from the hoses is different also. There is a brass fitting which takes the pipe that joins the two cylinders together, all in all it is quite a different setup. My new cylinders were fro...

Re: Series MM wheel cylinders
My early Series II has MM running gear I got all new cylinders for my car when redoing the brakes and they were very good quality. My feeling is you don't scrimp and save on brakes - they're too important

Re: sump gasket
Well, I never take much notice of the fuel consumption I'm afraid. I stick about $20 worth in at the beginning and it gets me a fair way that's all I know! I suspect it would be in the region of 35 mpg but I really have no clue She is running well now, cruises at around 45-50 mph and climbs well if ...

Congrats on the car - looks superb. I notice you have the very rare glovebox clock. Is this an original or a modern reproduction?
