Re: Water leak (non Morris!)

Rained overnight so had a check this morning (still raining) and it was running in, far more than previous. I had microfiber cloth positioned to absorb and there was quite a bit. Had a feel up into the corner as far as I could and the sunroof drain pipe was dry as was all of what I could feel? Seeme...

Re: Water leak (non Morris!)

Good thoughts! although I can rule out rear wash as it leaked while standing, definitely water as I doesn't have the smell to it. Sunroof good idea although when I dropped the headlining all looked good - I replaced the glass roof seal with a hollow section silicone seal and it really fits well, not...

Re: Water leak (non Morris!)

Yes, nearside in that corner I think. Had the said grommet out (no splits) and replaced with silicone sealant in the body hole. All clean and tidy. Lifted hinges and bedded them in wax sealant, rear door seal removed and replaced with sealant in the joint, aerial gasket replaced and sealed. Roof bar...

Re: Water leak (non Morris!)

Thanks guys! That's the stuff - just ordered a bottle, 2 - 3 days delivery (highly optimistic!) It's in the rear corner of the roof and I can only see the water once it appears halfway down the corner, a really complex assembly, my endoscope experiment was unsuccessful due to the multilayer construc...

Water leak (non Morris!)

My daily is a mk4 Astra Estate and over the last 2/3 weeks I have been chasing a rain leak around the roof area rear corner. Running out of ideas. The area in question, rear corners, is particularly complicated (and strong) consisting of 3 thickness sections of complicated shapes which I have tried ...

No date on double ended grinder wheel's is there?

Re: How much fun?!?!??

As a teenager (years ago!) when we used to get real snow my mate and myself used this massive empty pub car park for 'snow practice' Did about 40 miles in it doing all sorts but I am convinced the experience taught us both an awful lot about driving in the snow. Most drivers these days haven't got a...

Re: Prop Shaft Grease Nipples

My original u/j's have screw plugs fitted which I replace with grease nipples when lubed although I'm not sure about the thread - just thought it would be BSF or UNF.
I thought they weren't permanently fitted for balance reasons.

Re: Electrolytic rust removal

I've used this method also with good results on my stationary engine parts. I also bought a gallon of Jenolite which worked well, but not for long which made it quite expensive!
You can buy a LOT of soda crystals for the same price!

Filled the new system on mine 12+ years ago and not had to touch it or bleed it since, bit of a no brainer for an infrequently used vehicle I would have thought.

Re: Brake fluid moister tester at Lidl

I've seen them in Lidl, will have to have another look! How many times do you hear about a 'full Main Dealer service history ' but the brake fluid had never been changed? I bought an Escort years back with full history from the supplying dealer and regardless I would always replace timing belt - it ...

Re: Rear Springs Hitting Chassis Rail

They didn't touch all the time only on big deflections but I did take metal from the chassis rail, wasn't a great deal but annoying non the less.
It seems the springs from the axle back should be shorter allowing the shackle to be more vertical at rest?

Re: Rear Springs Hitting Chassis Rail

My chassis rail is original and has the clearance curve in it. I replaced the springs, they were the original thin section leaf, with new (thick) Restoration went ahead over the next few years! and when we were finally mobile I found the spring rubbed the chassis. In hindsight I wish I had kept the ...

I bought one a while back, I use it for lifting my stationary engine projects on and off bench. Made a scaffold pole roller assembly for it to move a lifted engine.
Works well, recommended!

I fitted these back in the early 70's, 175 X 14! Called Midland Metalics.
Not sure I would do it now - but I still like them :P
