Thanks panky, I have never been around anyone doing car welding so i have just having ago, the fabricator that came round just set up the welder but he never does cars just heavt industry, I will just keep going and practice on bits till i get a project car to fix thats not my main car haha.

I had a friend into classic fords and he used to use a motor cycle chain around the axle connected to a point in his garage floor, not the easiest thing to have to fit when you park, and on occasion it even fooled him as he tried to drive away.

The only thing i had to hand was some copper tube so i hammered it flat and yes it did work nice and i used it clamped on at the ends so it did'nt blow the edge away, I hope the image post works , this is just random welding on scrap car panel This is the oxford welder i went for, after looking at a...

thanks Redmoggy, Thats just what i have done today, I have been clearing up the garage and in between welding to old car panels and i have taken tine to clean and line up the metal, I think butt joins are going to be the tricky part for me but i will keep on trying.

I think i should be ok if its flat on the bench, The biggest improvement i have made was changing my old mig welders gas from Co2 to argo shield, So now with the new welder i should even be better, However good ingredients do not always make a nice meal...

Any welding tutorials or tips ?
I have never been into welding other than a few heavy duty brackets made with an arc welder, So car body work is going to be a challange, I had a used cheap mig welder which was a bit iratic but i did manage some ok bits of welds on scrap bits, I did some looking around and purchased a Oxford migmak...

My car is a 1958 traveller thats not had much done and had been kept mainly origanal its not in amazing condition,However i am thinking the same as yourself as like to keep it as standard as possible, but i might just go for a spin on filter after i sort out the engine and keep all the original part...

To be fair i have never used the bristol place other than for reference, I have the cartridge filter in at the moment as thats what i was sold as the corrct filter from my local supplier, But as you say if i use the cartridge and plates with the spring it will be ok, At this point i think i cannot m...

Ok, I think what i have is the center oil filter as pictured on this diagram

Thanks thats helpfull, but i think i might have a mix and match going on, the big washer that goes on the botton of the oil filter will only half cure my problem, i think there should be abother one on top and maybe some seals, it might be easier if i take some picture and upload them, thanks again ...

Firstly hello all, I am a new member but a long time forum watcher, Moving to the point, I have a 1958 traveller and recently took the oil filter appart, its the paper element type and i can now see that i must have parts missing and the filter has been allowing oil to pass unfiltered for along time...
