Re: Tank not allowing fuel to come out :-(

The best way to clear blocked pipes is with compressed air.

You mention making new holes, if these are above the fuel level or the pipe was damaged then it may just be drawing air.

Re: Buying a 1950 Morris Minor

Parts for a 1950 aren't as easy to get as for the late models, but not impossible. In uk the MMOC keeps a stock.

Re: Buying a 1950 Morris Minor

If it runs and isn't rusty I'd say that is a pretty good price for one as early as 1950. You can buy new interior trim of the correct type from Newton Commercial in the uk.

Re: starting problem

I'd hazard a guess at a poor contact in the pull start switch. Mine plays up like that occasionally, especially if it hasn't been used for a while. The switch doesn't dismantle for cleaning but working it seems to help.

It should be on a plate on the bulkhead, under the bonnet.

Re: New Top Gear team

I can't help thinking the BBC have carefully planned the current London business for a bit of publicity. Do a bit of tyre squealing, Top Gear viewers will love that, wheel out an old colonel to complain, makes a change from the usual PC crowd. Then get Evans to make a gushing apology just to show he...

Re: Lost Paperwork

It depends where you are planning to keep and use the car. For the uk see the DVLA website for import vehicle procedures. If you are leaving it in Cyprus check with the local registration authority. All countries have their own procedures.

Good luck with that. In my experience DVLA are better at making mistakes than they are at putting things right.

Re: First Time Engine Rebuild

When insurers talk of things like a replacement engine needing to be fitted professionally you need to be clear with them what exactly you are doing. Someone in their office may have no idea of the difference between fitting a Rover v8 and just fitting a later a series and treats them all the same. ...

Before you take the engine apart you could try retarding the ignition slightly.

Re: Temporary ignition warning light problem

If it runs as a motor it's good enough to keep as a spare. For a more scientific voltmeter test you would need to refit it to the car so it can be driven at normal running speed. After your previous woes if the cars now working I'd leave well alone!

Re: Temporary ignition warning light problem

If you clean it and there is no sign of damage reassemble it. It can be bench tested by joining the two terminals together and connecting them to a battery and connecting the battery's other terminal to Earth on the Dynamo body. It will spin if all is well. Do this test only briefly as it is said no...

Re: Temporary ignition warning light problem

I'm not sure about your first question but it would be worth having a look in your dynamo. If the windings or commutator are damaged it has probably had it but a good clean may help, especially cleaning the commutator. If the brushes are OK have a look at the springs holding them in place. Mine stop...

Not only the risk of buying a car with a dodgy identity, there's also the risk of having your legitimate car stolen by someone who has a v5 and plates to disguise it with so he can sell it.

Re: Bag or bottle??

I had a project car once with fragments of a glass bottle, they can't take knocks, jolts or freezing. Chocolate teapot? They had just started making replica ones at vast cost so I just used a white spirit bottle, but that caused a bit of sniffing in Daimler circles. Left with a choice of plastic bot...
