That is my feeling from looking at them. So replacing them is a block of wood under the sump and gently lift engine up enough to replace? is there enough slack to do it that way? I'll be crawling under tonight if its dry to inspect the gear box mounts and steady cable as well as having a good look a...

I adjusted the clutch when I serviced the car a few months ago, about 4-5 cm of free play and actual bite point is about 1/2 - 2/3 down on the pedal, so that feels fine to drive. (was alomst on the floor before I adjusted it) How soft should the engine mounts be? those in the car at the moment can e...

clutch judder
OK, I know its just one of those little things that makes it a moggy, but my clutch judder seems to be getting worse. Reverse has always been poor, but it is now getting quite pronounced in first too. Any ideas on how to reduce this? So far the things I can see that need obvious work are: Engine mou...

Nice work Dan, Looks OK, but of course very thin in content just now. Well if we are gona talk colours I vote for almond green..... just to annoy Jim ;-) seriously I like plain and simple, white is more than fine with me, hummmm if you're using style sheet I wonder if you could have selectable moggy...

ignition switch maximum load
I'm just about finished with a serious tidy up of my wiring. It was a mess to say the least, with the old fuse box failing to hold one of the fuses and alternator conversion all tangled up in insulation tape. A new fuse box has sorted most of that but I have a question.... What is the maximum load t...

disc brakes and servo. no problem stopping, as tested yesterday when some 'person' in a merc pulled out in front of me on a 70mph road. (sometimes i think people see an old car and assume it must be going slow) No idea when the fluid might have been replaced last, so I did intend to renew the brake ...

brake light switch
I've noticed when backing the car in the garage that the brake lights do not always come on with a light touch of the brakes. A heavy press and they come on fine, but it got me wondering if they are on when I brake lightly at other times or even if just sat on a light brake when stationary. so... ho...

I quite like the thread, and as others have pointed out it may encourage or at least amuse others! sorry no photo from the last meet, I got there a bit late and it was just too dark to do much without a tripod! (would have to take a shot without a flash to get all the cars in) All you can see in the...

Rear seat belts in a traveller
Now I'm almost always in the front so its not an issue for me but: My occasional passengers complain that the seat belts are too short and that they keep 'reeling in' as you go over rough roads so that eventually they are pinned to the seat by one shoulder. Does anyone have any good solutions to thi...

Jim, I do love the fact it was your wife that wanted the car.... but you're slowly pimping your ride into some sort of sports car that you really wanted ;-) I bet next on the list will be shocks and roll bar once the engine is up to speed! I'm not sure how your travs performance matches up to mine, ...
The other question I'm facing is 145's or 155's, I'm currently on 155's but the rear are pretty much on the limit and the front look pretty 'old' although the tread is good, so it might just be easier to change the whole lot in one go (all 5 will cost less than 1 on my Astra). What really is the dif...
