Re: Bracket

I had the exactly the same problem as Geoberni about 6 weeks after moving my coil to the alternator. It's now back on the bulkhead.

Re: TIG welder

It depends on practice, I'm not as steady now as I was during my apprenticeship so I tend to look for things to lean against. you get a far nicer looking weld with TIG but everything has to be clean.

Re: TIG welder

I have an R-Tech TIG for home use, it's just the DC unit, all TIG units have a drooping characteristic so can also be used for manual metal arc welding. If you do purchase a TIG unit make sure that you have HF for starting, also, purchase you gas cylinder locally, you don't want to travel miles to c...

Re: Mystery pipe

Do you need a PCV valve with a hs4 carb? you don't with a hif carb.

Re: Another breather problem

If its working I would leave it as is, however, the oil catch can is there for a reason, you may find that you get a hard oil deposit building up around the valves. If you did decide to fit a tappet chest cover with an oil catch can, you need the correct one as the mini has a different pipe angle wh...

Re: Rocker Arms & Rocker Shaft Assembly

I'm not quite sure what's wrong with sintered rockers as when they wear you can swop them round on a new shaft to get a different part of the face in contact with the valve. Simply put rocker 1 onto position 8, 2 onto 7, 3 onto 6 etc. I know that the pressed steel rockers were case hardened and the ...

Re: Hif38 carb problem

Have you got water connected to the inlet? If so, try leaving the heater on until the manifold is warm.

Re: Hif38 carb problem

Yeah, mine is the same, this is why Morris designed the inlet and exhaust manifold as a one piece unit, the hotspot has a use. I now wish that I had left my Marina inlet attached to the exhaust manifold. It may be worth checking that your points gap is correct, and that the vacuum advance is operati...

Re: Top Hat Seal

You could always fit one of these on the rear brake pipe http://www.mcgillmotorsport.com/brake-r ... rakes-676/ They also do a 2lb one for the front disks. As the others have said, I've never needed one.

Re: Brake pipe clamping

With the master cylinder being under the floor, there is very little intrinsic pressure so only light clamping pressure is required to stop the flow. If you have a remote reservoir fitted, seal the cap with cling film.

Re: A Motor breathing/ leaking as a result

It's worth noting that you don't need a PCV if you have fitted a hif carb. you just connect the oil separator to the connection on the carburettor. The correct rubber pipe is available from all the mini on line part suppliers.

I have just rebuilt a ribbed gearbox with new original bearings ready to fit to the car when things get back to normal, it's got the same play.

Re: double ended wheel nuts

I was once told that if I wanted to stop the trunnions from failing to make sure that I greased them once a month. I do this at the start of the month no matter how many miles I have done in the car. It would be interesting to know what others do.

Sorry Mike, I should have said don't buy the one in the link without first checking that it will fit your pump.

Don't buy the one in the link!! I only put that one on to prove that you could get E10 resistant diaphragms and that you should ask the question.
