Re: Constantly flooding when trying to cold start

Been watching this thread from afar and rather than add my thoughts the cause looks to have been identified, a bad battery. With this I have a couple of points to raise, it seems you use your car as your daily driver. Do you have a dynamo or an alternator fitted? It may be advisable if you have a dy...

Re: Fitting failure of water temp sensor adaptor - what went wrong?

You have used too much ptfe tape, that and the quality of the brass fitting caused it to shear when you tightened it up. I once fitted a central heating radiator with extension tails on the end which constantly weeped when filled. I made exactly the same mistake of using too much ptfe and in the end...

Re: Brake master cylinder boot

One of the main things to consider when overhauling brakes is that if the M/C is old the cylinder bore may be pitted. When you start bleeding the brakes and pumping the cylinder to it’s full stroke it will wreck the seals.
As a belt and braces approach I would consider replacing the cylinder.

Re: Ignition light

Try stripping it down first and check the brushes, the springs holding them onto the commuter may have rusted away and they are not making contact with the commuter. If the brushes have worn away replacements are available.
A cheap and easy repair.

Re: Helicoil help - front damper mounting

Which thread is stripped? Top or bottom hole? Personally I wouldn’t helicoil it, I would drill and tap a flat piece of steel and cut a slot Underneath the Cross beam and feed it up, you will get more purchase on the tapped steel than a helicoil when you tighten it up. You could even weld the same si...

Re: worst year for minors

They were cheap cars quickly thrown together in the factories. The engines and running gear did not have a long service life. By the introduction of the 1098 engine they were so outdated in style and layout, BMC just didn't care about them and only continued making them because they sold well. Comp...

Probably not a casting fault, the cylinders are a tight fit so may have been broken when installed.

Re: Squeaky brakes and handbrakes

As above, set it up as per the workshop/Haynes manual. Release the handbrake, adjust the shoes to lock the drums. Pull the handbrake up 3 notches and check the cables at the handbrake end are adjusted up correctly.
Release the handbrake adjust the shoes as per normal and retest.

Keith has hit the nail on the head on a number of points, The main one for me is Education, when smart motorways were starting to be introduced there was very little Information made available for the ordinary motorist. On another note of education, it is only recently that motorway driving tuition ...

I recently sold a 948 gearbox on eBay for £55, the spares you have maybe interchangeable with other models so may not command a high price.

The Halfords part number for the oil filter is HOF203 for the spin on filter. Used them many times on my 948.

Nothing like bad driving and the weather to harvest people's opinions  Most people think they would pass the advanced motorists test when in actual fact we would probably fail. Over the years I have taken the stance of rather than be quick to offer my opinion, only offer it when asked. The same...

Re: Dynamo Testing - what am I doing wrong?

I don't think turning it over with the drill will allow you to turn it over fast enough, I would bolt it to a car with the engine running to try and complete the tests. A drill works fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtKOJtJ_Dt4 There is a difference in the type of drill in the photo gtt posted...

Hi Mike,
It does sound like a faulty pump if there is no activity. Have you tried the favourite method of giving it a tap with a hammer?
Any chance of a refund?

Re: Non starter

As part of the process of elimination try pouring a egg cup of fuel down the air intake and see if you get it to fire. Is the pump ticking when the ignition is on?

Re: Fuel pump woes...

The simplest way to test the pump and to prove if there is high resistance in the circuit is to connect the pump directly to the battery and start the car. If the problem still persists then check the fuel line for blockages.
