Re: Spare wire

Pretty sure it will be the oil filter blocked warning switch. Some of the oil filter housings don't have the sender, some do. I always thought it worthwhile having had 2 minors with a blocked filter (one was soon after a service!) and the other was being run for first time after coming from an un-kn...

Re: Brake bleeding problems

What other work has been done E.g. cylinders replaced? The rear cylinders need to be primed if replaced as the rear bleed nipples only bleed the pipe upstream of the cylinder. Sometimes not needed to prime but sometimes will give your symptoms. Back off brake adjusters and take drum off. Press pedal...

Re: Cleaning / Protecting Chassis Legs

Vacuum cleaner attachment has been mentioned - although I have learnt something new as I'd never thought to use plastic conduit but it's a great idea for rust flakes. Degreaser is OK - but definitely not soapy water (washing up liquid is bad for bare steel due to salt content). The tips about thinni...

I've lost a number of friends over the years including 4 great people that I've met from this message board. It's sad but happens to all of us in the end. In response to the comment about Facebook - there is a setting to nominate someone to continue your Facebook profile as a memorial when the time ...

Re: Crank rear oil seal conversion for 1098 cc ?

The design was copied across from Maestro A+ engine however that has a machined surface for the seal to run on. If you're getting the crank machined for a rebuild then it wouldn't be too hard to get them to clean up the crank in this area for the seal.. but without that I suspect it relies on luck a...

Re: Remove stuck brake lines

If the fittings are over-tightened they will distort and it makes the flare wider - the pipe nuts get distorted to a point they don't go in/out of the female. If it's a small difference they can be dressed with a file but best solution is to replace them as they are already out of shape. (Easier sai...

hey - don't knock the 106... Some (maybe not many) are surviving way better than you'd expect given it's pedigree
(e.g. anyone ever remember seeing see a 20 year old 104 / Talbot Samba?? nope)

Re: Unequal rear ride hieght

as far as I remember - the splines at front and rear are the same, so it wouldn't matter which end you take off. Now that you're good at it, moving a few more holes on the adjuster plate will be a fairly quick job.. (if needed) What did make me a bit suspicious was that he rear axle (bump stop) clea...

Re: Goodbye taxdisc - or not!

I renewed my wife's car tax in the middle of September (to end of September 2015..) and they had already stopped issuing tax disks - which seems normal as they are defunct from 1st October. Apparently DVLA ran out of disks well ahead of the deadline so had to issue some of the ones starting in Septe...

Re: Which is the best mig welder?

I used a SIP migmate 130 tubo and recognise all the well-discussed issues you'll find on that welding forum... (definately worth a read!) I replaced the full torch/cable assy twice and lots of torch liners as well. For these, the 0.8mm wire together with a 1.00mm tip is a common preffered 'solution'...

Re: Has anyone painted their hub caps?

I've only ever painted the inside of hub caps -as mine started rusting on the reverse!

Stainless is indeed the best option, but I've never found them to be very shiny.

Re: Unequal rear ride hieght

beero - great advice. More than 90% of rear height imbalance issues I've come across were related to the front suspension. If you imagine the car as a 4 legged stool - if you shorten or lenghten one leg without adjusting the opposite corner, then one leg is always in the air. The same goes with cars...

Hi Paul, sorry no answer from me, but concours is done via regional rallies as well as at the national rally, so it would be hard to know without getting info from each separate event. It might be worth asking Mike Perry (series MM register) as he's very knowledgeable and also know many of the peopl...
