A washer is not required, just screw it in and tighten.

Re: Rear Disc Brake Conversion

You need to fit a 10lb brake valve on the pipe to the rear. They keep the rear shoes in contact with the drum. You have to remember that you have removed the top hat seal from the master cylinder.

Re: wires connected to coil

Have you tested the old coil? You should have about 3.5 ohms resistance across the coil terminals.

Re: wires connected to coil

I think that this post is related to a previous one. The poster drove home and the engine starts but cuts out after a few seconds

Re: suddenly cutting out after starting up

It could be a lot of things and everyone will have a different idea as its difficult to diagnose without the car in front of you. I personally would now look at the condenser and coil.

Re: Fuel smell

Try tightening the sender unit fasteners, but be aware that you can overtighten them which crushes the gasket. Also you do not need any sealant with a cork gasket.

Re: Fuel not pumping through

IIRC there is a filter inside the tank, I would be tempted to syphon out as much fuel as possible, remove the sender unit then have a look inside. You can do this with the tank still inside the car. Obviously no naked flames etc.

Are you sure the problem is with the pump, have you got a spark when the engine dies?

If you run the engine then turn off the ignition as soon as the engine stops, is there fuel in the float chamber?

Before removing anything check the battery. Put the headlights on and turn the key, are the headlight going dim?

Re: Rear Suspension Overhaul Advice please

I've ordered from Jones Springs of Walsall. British spring steel and springs made in Britain. Properly heat treated. For 5 leaf springs (my car is a convertible) they are £130 + VAT each. They are made to order and the company is extremely busy at the moment. Delivery 3-4 weeks. If a job is worth d...

Painful but quality costs money. If they last as long as my current springs did I will not be around to be buying another set!

How long did delivery take?
About a week

Re: Rear Suspension Overhaul Advice please

I changed my springs last year with a set from a usual supplier, they lasted about two months before the bump stops hit the pad over any bump. I contacted Jones springs who made me a set to the original specification, they cost quite a bit more but are worth it. The others at the back of my workshop...

Sorry, I didn't spot that. I would be tempted to put a set of points and condenser on it then try again.
