with bm here yes it might stop the movement a little but will not stop the suspension from coming apart,Strip it and have a look at the threads,only way to be sure its not ready to pull out of the leg.

I'm with bm here Takes a fair bit of heat and every time I have tried I've ended up with solder running out of other parts of the rad,any rad specialist will do the job quicker and better for next to no money,You've done the hard bit in getting it out of the car .

The damage happened when re-fitting the read window…… So it needs replacing now…

check the coil by pulling the ht lead off the distributor,with the ignition on hold the end near to the block and then flick the points open with a plastic pen or wooden probe you should get strong loud crack as the spark arcs from the ht lead to the block if non or very week then the coil is suspect

if you want it with an mot its going to cost you three times as much as one for rebuilding,The weldings no problem and just find a decent second hand engine and drop it in .
