Re: Hello!

Have you actually seen a Rose Taupe Morris in good condition? It is a very striking colour which looks great and really suits the traveller with the contrasting woodwork :) You might feel differently about it. Changing the colour of a Minor properly would cost a great deal of money because of all th...

Re: seatbelt mountings on a 1963 traveller

The seatbelt mountings your car has are correct for that age of car. They were first fitted that way in 1961 when the Traveller was still fitted with semaphore indicators hence the two positions - one a bit too high to be ideal and one a bit too low! The 4door saloon had a similar arrangement. When ...

Re: Just saying hi.

Good to hear from you. Hope you enjoy your Minor Van and find that it "does the job" for you. You are bound to need to get your hands dirty now and again - but that is part of the fun of ownership. Parts availability for the Minor is still very good and they are a simple and basically reli...

Re: Ford Based Front Disk Brakes

It was a long time ago but They are Ford based. 'OWN112FD Complete disc kit, using the more powerful Ford Sierra or Escort Mk 3&4 callipers. A larger swept area of pad gives greater stopping power'. We learn something new each day. I didn't know that Owen moved into the use of Ford parts. I rem...

Re: Seat straps

The Police "Panda" Minors had strengthened seat frames and did also had the diaphragms fitted. As you say, they were long-lasting. Whether the new replacement ones will last as long remains to be seen but they are not expensive and I would give them a try. They are not made by the same com...

Re: Restoring Morris Pickup 1971

I know we're getting away from the topic now, but on the subject of working on cars and fuel related accidental fires, one tip: Wash your overalls regularly. I knew somebody who's somewhat oily old overalls caught fire by accident while working. Horrific injuries which would have been much less seri...

Re: How Far have you driven?

560 miles in one day in a Minor is a LOT. I have fairly regularly managed 400 on holidays and have found that far enough in a standard car.
At least a bog standard car doesn't have an alternator to go wrong so is more reliable!

Re: Saloon bootwell - help needed!

It might not be too bad? Place a wanted ad here? Ask around the Morris Minor specialists who advertise used parts and ask if any of them has a suitable donor car you can visit with a chisel or angle grinder! I expect some otherwise rusty cars are quite sound in this area.

Re: Body shapes after 1964

Yes, the later type heater pre-dated the later type dashboard by a year so an early 1964 car which has the early type dashboard and pull switches would have been fitted with the late type "fresh air" heater and the air intake trunking running through the engine bay.

Re: Saloon bootwell - help needed!

I had to replace the bootwell on one of my cars. It is an easy enough job with the repair panel available BUT if the area around the fuel tank - forward of the manufactured repair panel - has also suffered from serious corrosion, as far as I'm aware that part is NOT available as a spare part. I supp...

Re: Body shapes after 1964

I think you'll find that chassis number 1056xxx pre-dates the 1964 changes, meaning that the car in question would have the earlier dash panel and roof header rail etc. A different bodyshell from the later cars if that answers your question. Mechanically there will be very little different and the m...

Re: Body shapes after 1964

The bodyshell did change during late 1964 from the early type dashboard (with pull type switches) to the later type with toggle switches - along with the different header rail for the later sunvisors etc. However if your 1964 car is from late in that year then there were very few changes after that ...

Re: Pickup

I have to say that I agree with John. Although this seems a great deal of money, I don't think it is a great surprise. It would be very easy to spend much more than £15,000 on a restoration - and you'd have to pay a few thousand for a restorable pick-up in the first place of course. Times have chang...

"Empire Green" was replaced in 1956 by "Dark Green" which looks much more like your car. Dark Green cars generally had a light grey interior.

Re: valuation prices

I'm simply being realistic rather than negative. The very fact that you've found it necessary to fit the Minor 1000 engine, differential and brakes shows that you too are aware of these shortcomings. The Series 11 was not "pure". Only the original MM can claim that surely? The Series 11 ca...

Re: valuation prices

The value of anything is due to supply and demand. The values of Series 11 cars has always been relatively low. The very earliest cars (the lowlight MMs) have their own market of course but despite the visual and characterful appeal the Series 11 simply isn't practical for most owners so they opt fo...
