Re: 1275 engine
Is there any benifit off having an auto minor and do you think i should leave it in was told it all runs ok but i havent had it started yet Not really if you are capable of driving a manual, but for people with leg issues it can make the difference between driving a Minor or having to give it up an...

Try sending alainmoran a PM. I believe he has a rare manual on the subject which includes drawings for an alignment jig.

You're right that it's not charging. Try cleaning the contacts in the voltage regulator box first.

Re: Coils
Useful advice but if you can't trust a new coil, an old coil or an unused NOS coil where do you get a known good spare from in the first place?? :-? If your coil is working well and causing no problems then you'd keep it where it was rather than put it in the boot. And if you happened to have a kno...

Re: Coils
I had a run of bad luck with coils a couple of years ago. The one that came with the car developed a fault that took a while to find through a process of elimination. She intermittently misfired but only when accelerating hard above 40 mph - that made overtaking rather dicey. Because I'd believed th...

Re: Problem starting / running
Perhaps the old petrol in the tank has gone a bit 'off' (lost its more volatile ingredients). Try filling up the float chamber with some fresh stuff.

Re: Front wing removal
The only one I had trouble with was the very bottom bolt, how do you get to the nut??? Anyway I ground it off and got the nut out through the enormous rusty hole it exposed. The captive nut plate is supposed to be welded to the back of the inner wing panel in such a way that it doesn't turn when yo...

Re: Halfshaft Seals
Could anyone help me sourcing some half shaft seals ? Have recently put my first moggie through its MOT and the guy at the garage said there was a small leak onto a brake pad and if I could get a half shaft seal he would fix it. You probably want both an O ring and a gasket: http://morrisminorspare...

Re: Split sceen
A friend of mine (who doesn't post on here) did that to his early 1000 Traveller. I did a double-take when I noticed it! I think he put some kind of self-adhesive chromed plastic strip on both sides of the glass. An external bead will probably interfere with your wipers unless it's early enough that...

Re: Positive earth, Negative earth? How to tell?
Hi there, How do I know which wire supplies the feed from the ignition for the ACC wire, and how to I access the ignition (In detail)? Thanks guys you have been so helpfull. Look for a four way bullet connector with dark green wires going into it and a spare socket you can plug your cable into. The...

As MarkyB said, you pull the plunger out while you're putting the grease in. Then you screw the top back on the gun, push the tab, and push the plunger back in.

Re: grease gun troubles
2) My obvious question now is what type of grease do I buy to fill it? Does grease come in smaller cartridges, as the guns reservoir isn't as big as a silicon or decorators caulk cartridge that my local motor factor sells, or do I just get a tin and scoop it into the gun by hand? Any guidance on th...

Re: how tell if smiths oil gauge is electric or capilliary?
Note that earlier cars (< 1964 ish) with the bronze-face speedo and 'fast acting' fuel gauge don't have a 10V voltage stabiliser. You can add one pretty easily though.Declan_Burns wrote:Just remove the speedo to access the voltage regulator

Re: Positive earth, Negative earth? How to tell?
Yes, but don't forget to put an inline fuse as close as possible to where it connects to the battery, and fit a grommet to the hole where the wires pass through the bulkhead. Normally the battery wire goes to a permanent live, and the accessory wire goes to an ignition switched live (modern cars hav...

Re: Some Help Please!
Silly question, but have you turned the hot water on? On early cars you have to get under the bonnet and open the brass tap at the back of the cylinder head. Later cars (post-1963) have a knob under the dashboard that you push to open the valve.

I wonder also if re-tempered original springs (probably made from better steel) will hold their shape longer than modern pattern ones.

Re: fuel tanks
Bits of metal (nuts/washers) are preferable to stones because they don't turn into abrasive sand in the 'rumbling' process.
I wouldn't put any kind of paint/sealer in there because it will block the strainer on the fuel pipe.
