Re: Would you choose Lucas parts?
As previously mentioned, buy modern electric ignition. No more problems.
Only problems are people giving you negative comments because they simply dont like it. I dont know 1 single person who has not said it is fit and forget. I've had it fitted to all 3 cars for over 10 years now.

Just realised that after I wrote it! Think I used a 33mm for that.philthehill wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 6:16 pm The hub nut (1 7/8") and the camshaft nut (1 5/16") are two different sizes so the one socket cannot be used to do both nuts.
Getting old and forgetful!

I've used a slightly modified 47mm 6 sided socket for 30 years. 3/4 drive. I've never had a problem with it. I do the camshaft nut up with it as well

Re: Cooking the spark plugs
I recently fitted 4 new plugs in my rebuild 1275 engine. I've driven 500 miles or so and wanted to check it all over. When I started to remove 1 plug to check colour, it snapped. Then I tried another plug, snapped. 2 out of 4 broke. Me thinking it was my plug spanner, I tried it on my spare engine w...

Re: Increasing petrol tank capacity.
I did this a couple of years ago and ran into problems with the sender unit. I tried a few different ones with longer arms and never got it to work right. I got a 9 gallon tank made out of Stainless where I work at an engineering company. I ended up using the original sender. It meant when my gauge ...

Re: Unusual Breakdown
it does make me wonder why people pay for breakdown recovery when they want to attempt to fix a car by the roadside? why pay for a service you have no intention of using? never understood that. if it came with your insurance, fair enough but i'd be asking for a discount if it meant you wasn't going ...

Re: Unusual Breakdown
this is exactly why i changed to electronic ignition around 12 years ago. My dizzy cap has been off around 4 or maybe 5 times in that time. The car is 100% reliable and i would drive it anywhere knowing i won't have all this hassle. If i breakdown i call the breakdown company. thats why i pay them a...

Having owned a A35 van and a couple of A35 Countryman's in my honest opinion the rear door hinges were never any good and required constant attention. you sure Phil? i got rid of my traveller years ago as the hinges on it made the doors drop almost all the time. The wood was half decent. My A...

Re: white smoke after 1275 engine build
i decided to fit a new oil pressure valve and switch this morning. I also found a small leak which was coming from the oil gallery plug where i hadn't screwed it in tight enough. (schoolboy error on my part). so all seems good now. I have 70psi cold and 40psi hot. The engine is a little tight but i'...
