Re: Radiator type?

A serious loss of cooling fins.
Managed to pick up a near perfect second hand one at Bealieu this year..£10, bargain of the day !!
It was lurking under a tresle table and nearly missed it.

Steve
It's looking great...your little lad's eyes are going to pop out of their heads when they see it at Christmas !!

Must be time to get the dust sheet over it, just in case it is discovered prematurely.

Martin
Hope you had a "safe" and "uneventful " journey.
You will know the car at the end of it and have a mental list of things to look at.

Enjoy the lie-in tommorow !!

Thanks Roy for providing Martin with the info yesterday.
Didn't get onto the Forum yesterday, busy putting doors and wings back on my pal's Morris Minor. He's got it booked in at the paint shop at the end of the month. So a busy time with last minute bits and pieces.

Re: positive/negative earth- how to tell

Martin The car's engine bay looks great. If the rest of the car is as good ,you've choosen well. From the picture it looks as though the pipe ( Breather hose ) from the rocker box to the carb has a nasty split ( ? ) That being the case it is probably a good idea to replace fairly soon.( ESM charge £2...

Ooooh...nasty !! Looks like the work of a " professional " Mr Bodger.A couple of different size mesh grilles in evidence, he clearly deliberated over the available materials, during the re-construction process.Discerning ? Only one place for the stuff and you don't need me to tell you wher...

Re: wobbly ignition switch

A " wobbly " igntion switch ? Do you mean that the central barrel rotates in the dashboard hole, as you try to fire up the engine ? If so, the bezel retaining ring needs to be tightened up to keep the keyhole in the right position. A correct spanner is available but most people cheat, for ...

Re: Door Malalignment

Xpress First check is that the hinges bolts are done up tight and then check for movement in the pins ( worn ? ) Hold the door open and see if lifting the outside edge ,moves the whole car or if "waggles " the door. If all appears sound proceed....with the door closed, assess the gaps and ...

Re: Radiator; should it have water along its base?

When the engine is cold ,check that the radiator hose clips top and bottom are done up tight ( the jubilee/ wire type ) and that they are not " weeping " at the joint.Whilst examining make sure the rubber itself is not perished.it should be flexible with some give and not be rock hard.

Re: Pick up Restoration (Part 2)

David I must confess to not being familiar with the pick up body work but the dent clearly needs attention and dressing down. From the body shop kit ,is it not possible to get a curved spoon dolly tucked in behind the metal work for some action with the body hammer ? Or alternatively, how about a de...

Re: Correct procedure for spraying wheels

Alec Your comments are noted and duly acknowledged as correct. Using the old style weights, clipped to the rim are one option but newer style weights stuck to the rim alow the skilled tyre fitter to place the weights more effectively. As you say with a standard Moggie it's unlikely to be critical th...

Chickenjohn beat me to it.Spot on reply which I endorse.

Get the tyre fitter, when he balances the wheels to put the balance weights on the inside of the tyres, so that all your good work is not spoiled !!

Re: A-pillar rust :(

Remember there are several "repair"section panels available from the main suppliers for typical rot areas ( and yours is typical ), e.g RP124R which incorporates the captive nuts to fix the wing back properly. If you are doing the repairs from flat sheet metal, dont forget to weld nuts on ...

The Postcode is exactly as quoted in an E-mail from them received this week..
but having checked it out with the Royal Mail postcode search Dryad , I agree with you.It looks like a "typo error "
on their part.

If you are positive that there isn't an existing hole in the murky depths of the corner, then yes.
Grommet..yes.
Should be metal clips on the driver's side, under the boot lid, to take the wiring to the number plate light.

Re: fitting a new loom

Moray Heat shrink will keep the loom braiding clean but is probably not robust enough to protect against damage from things thrown up from the road. Suitable plastic piping ( split length wise if you can't get it over the wiring ) put on from the rear end of the loom, i.e the rear lights/ petrol tan...
