Re: Trying to get Small Concours Details right on a 1970 Traveller

Yes, my Sept 1970 registered Traveller also has the light grey headlining and grey(ish) - although nowadays they have gone more a light brown colour, despite cleaning - rear load bay and wheelarch linings.

Perhaps he means it's currently fitted with a 1098, but he happens to have the original engine as a spare to rebuild...

Re: carbs and exhaust

I'd recommend the Maniflow system. I fitted one to my Midget-engined Traveller, and it fitted very easily and makes a pleasant note.

I suspect to get the extra 10bhp, you'll also need to fit the 12G295 cylinder head, or re-work your existing head.

Good to hear you found the culprit - an interesting one, that!

Re: Floor & Sill Costs

Monty-4, as an aside, please could you show a close-up of the radius arm/anti-tramp bars you have fitted, and where did you obtain them from? Also, do you find they improve handling noticeably?

Re: Vibration noises - where are they?

Yes, I've experienced that (the clips work loose), and also the front radiator grille slats vibrating with the engine idling.

Re: Mathewsons auction

At least you can see the super condition of the kidney panels, inner sills, rear floorpans, etc.; it's obviously had alot of work put into it.

Are the backs of the rear door ally panels supposed to be a grey (primer?) colour though? :-?

Re: Clutchless changes

In addition to the possibility of increased accident risk, bear in mind there will be alot of extra wear on the gearbox. In fact, my gearbox's first/reverse gear failed (well, went very 'clanky', due to a broken tooth) shortly after I had to drive for a period of a few miles (approx. 10) with a fail...

Re: head gasket?

Sounds like maybe a carbon build-up on cyls 3&4, possibly due to valve stem oil seal failure, hence the higher compression readings.

Perhaps try some engine cleaner such as Seafoam and give it a damned good thrashing to clear out the crud...

Chassis prefix stamped (large size) MAW5D - Cowley small with "/" between the ie; M/A - early ones with "J" vin suffix, later with "F". At Kelmarsh, noted an Adderley Park Traveller with a Cowley identity..... Thanks, Reg. And are the Adderley Park ones reportedly any ...

Re: Travellers now back to the level of 10 years ago!

Is there a distinct way of telling (i.e., from chassis numbers, etc.) whether it was built at Adderley Park or not?

Very nice too - I hope you'll enjoy it...

It'll probably enjoy being out and about in a warmer, dryer climate too, I imagine.

Re: Travellers now back to the level of 10 years ago!

Do you have any reliable data sources on the numbers of travellers registered outside the UK? UK data alone does not give a true picture. Good point; back in 1994, I sold a 1961 Traveller (which was registered XVE 557) to some Belgian classic car buyers, who came up and asked if I would sell it whi...

Travellers now back to the level of 10 years ago!

I was idly browsing the How Many Left website today, and discovered the number of Minor Travellers is now back up to nearly the number of 10 years ago: https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=Morris+Minor+Traveller Pretty remarkable, considering the number dropped to 735 at one point, fi...

Re: Crank bushes.

Well, it is stronger, and has synchromesh on 1st. Snag is, it's alot bulkier and heavier, and needs quite a bit of bodywork modification to make it fit. One reason I never got around to fitting a Ford Type 9 5-speed gearbox to mine, despite getting the kit, which I sold on after realising the amount...
