Re: Taking the moggie to France

I am informed by some friends that France is not much different, but I do know about the formalities in Germany. Firstly, and I have done this a few years ago before living here permanently, provided that the car is only temporarily in a EU country ( up to 6 months) there is no need for any formalit...

Re: This Europe referendum malarkey

It's not just us that want to leave the EU, others are considering leaving as well so it's no bed of roses. I think the fundamental idea is sound it's just not been applied in the right way and treads on too many toes in the process. you are junping the gun hier - nobody knows if "you" wa...

It is a bit like the 110km/hr Speed Limit in Britain - do you know anyone who actually abides by it and do the Police enforce it?

That goes for all of the european countries. Individually they are of little consequence in world affairs.

Whether that is important or not?

Re: This Europe referendum malarkey

That's an opinion, not a fact. There are plenty of people who have a idfferent, just as valid, opinion. Part of the problem is that nobody knows for sure what will happen whether we stay or leave. It stirkes me that if the EU insists on controlling 80% of rules for non-members then that just makes ...

Re: This Europe referendum malarkey

Firstly, they are not positions of absolute power and the persons were elected by the euro MPs. You are right of course in a sense that these fellows were appointed as a lot of wheeling and dealing goes on behind the Scenes before the actual vote takes place. Similarly you did not vote for or agains...

Re: This Europe referendum malarkey

The euro parliament is an elected body but not on the same Basis as in UK "local" elections. Parties nominate candidates and the number that become eligibal from this list is dependant on the size of their %Age vote. This is widespread practice on the continent in Country elections. IF UK ...

Re: Tailshaft oil seal replacement

I am pretty sure you will soon get some in depth advice here from those more experienced that me and my gearbox is the standard 1098 ribbed one but... The rear oil seal with its original felt bush seal and the more modern "rubber" oil seal ist simply chiselled off as carefully as possible ...

Re: This Europe referendum malarkey

At the end of the day, it boils down to the DEMOCRACY. If you are content with an unelected, self appointed group of "Commissioners" to continue to appoint themselves and are happy to be without any method of ever changing this--then vote Remain. At least with our current (bastardized) ve...

Re: This Europe referendum malarkey

Because most of us are so ignorant on such matters we tend to give judgement on our gut feelings. Now if you see the rightousness of the EU as I do, it is most unlikely that any argument to the contrary will sway this gut feeling even though I have made a conscious effort to determine as much factua...

Re: beam deflectors.

This is Standard for most Continental countries. The bottle of wine at lunchtime sydrome is exactly the reason the French government under Sarkozy ( it was a while ago now) introduced the legislation of having the alcoholtest kit to be carried in the car. Supposedly you could test yourself?? no idea...

Re: beam deflectors.

The other thing you are supposed to carry is a portable alcohol test kit. Like a lot of things in life, there are many regulations to follow and if for some reason the Gendarmerie decide to pick on you and test every possibility then there is sure to be something they can find. The chances of this h...

Re: clutch

But do check the layshaft which was the cause of my similar Problem. The original rubber bush in which a brass bush sits in, is often perished and a lot of the movement in depressing the clutch pedal is taken up by the resultant "play" . This rubber bush is now replaced by a nylon one whic...

Thanks for that.

I do not have Access to the car at the Moment as I have the flu but as I remember it, there is only a hose connecting the rocker cover to the underside of the air filter.
When I get the Chance and strength to rise out of my death bed, I will check and Report

Whilst I am not quite sure what the "top hat seal " is - would it perhaps be possible to remove only one of the Holding bolts of the MC i.e the front one and thus be able to do the work in.situ?

Re: Fuel gauge faulty

This does not apply to you , as your gauge was working before but it is perhaps an interesting anecdote. The fuel gauge when I bought my Traveller would also only read half way when the tank was full. It soon read empty after a few km, so you never knew where you were. I replaced the gauge with a sp...
