Re: Recon 1098 rumble.
No it's not a wheel bearing, they're new. I also overhauled the gearbox.

Re: Recon 1098 rumble.
Thanks Phil. My calibrated micrometre shows all bearings to be at the minimum side of the specifications. I compared the caliber with the calibrated micrometre from a nearby garage. There was a 0.008 mm difference. Consequently my crankshaft is just in or just out of specification. Let's see what th...

Re: Recon 1098 rumble.
Thanks for your reply Phil. Although disappointing outcome. So 1.740 for these 0,010 undersize mains bearings is causing this rumble?

Recon 1098 rumble.
Dear All, After the oil pressure became too low I decided to rebuild the 1098 block. It was rebored to 0,020 inch oversize and the 7 crank bearings to 0,010 inch undersize. New oil pump, pistons, shells, timing chain kit, and reconditioned head. Small ends were fine said the shop. At 300 km after re...

Re: Quietest exhaust system
Many thanks. Three helpfull answers! So if restriction is no problem I'll get a stainless 1,25" box from that shop to add at the rear.

Quietest exhaust system
I have fitted a new standard mild steel single box 2-piece system but above 50 it has a booming sound and banging on the overrun. Not just the 'parp'. My car is a very standard 1098 convertible. I know it will get quieter a bit after a while and cars made more noise back then, but still.. How can I ...

Re: New RB106 15v at the battery
As I understand the system: The D to Earth measurement is done with A/A1 disconnected and shorted together, thus disconnecting the Dynamo from the battery.... that's when you get the 16v ish reading. D to E with around 13v is checking the Cut Out with the A/A1 correctly connected. Yes, that's what ...

Re: New RB106 15v at the battery
As mentioned in the beginning, I allready checked with the manual the output of the regulator side and measured 15.6v between D and E. If I crank that up to the required 16v as per the manual the battery voltage won't come down... As for the solid state conversion, yes I can do that or go for an alt...

New RB106 15v at the battery
Dear all, At the restoration of my '67 1000 Convertible I had to renew the dead RB106 and the battery, now 60AH. After a test drive I noticed some dried-up electrolyte near the battery vent hole. The new battery is fully charged showing 13v after a long rest but with the engine running it shows a st...

Re: Hard board strips
My similar age Minor 1000 had these strips too. I have no idea of their real purpose but they were indeed stuck between the carpet and the steel rear heelboard in front of the rear seat. The mystery strips. 'Were stuck': you left them out as I did? Peculiar factory fitment, maybe only one or two pr...

Re: Hard board strips
Bob they came with the car seperately. The previous owner said they should go under the rear seat. The total length corresponds with the rear seat width and have traces of glue on them, the same as the original carpet glue. I did not fit them as I could not see their use

Dear all,
The wooden strips, should these go under the rear seat? What is the purpose?

Re: steering rack set up
I guess someone would have picked up on it by now, if I was right but I had the notion that there was a small hole in the outer housing and one in the rack, that when lined up, using a pin, gave you the correct position. Maybe I’m thinking of another application. Yes :D ForJaguars XJ and XJS remove...

Re: Brake pedal against underside cover plate
Thanks Alan! That is the answer I was looking for. I know it looked a silly topic. But the car was a wreck and I'm now finishing it. I've never driven it. Took the pedals out 18 months ago and now have put them in LHD instead of RHD. The pedal hitting the plate looked unusual and I wanted to be sure...

Could anyone tell me what stops the brake pedal in its upwards travel ? When released, where does it rest against.

Nearly the full length of the pedal's arm.
