having cursed and scraped knuckles over my cooling system in the last few days I think the following might be happening... the rad is held from above and below by 2 brackets, one bolted to the thermostat housing and one to the engine mount. both have rubber grommets to allow give but to keep things ...

as far as i know there are really only 2 types of sender that fit A-series engines.

most expect the standard 10v supply, a few rarer ones expect a 12v supply (early minis had this), they will all work after a fashion just that the 'normal' point on your gauge may be shifted slightly to one side.

one sealing ring is normal, if there was two, probably something like the last filter change left the ring on the block so you ended up with two at this filter change?

is the sensor in the block? or the thermostat housing? (seen both) if it appears to work fine but not in the engine then that suggests that its not in water, so you might have an airlock. assume when you remove the sensor you get water out of the hole? if not then replace it, then pump the hoses and...

yep thats how it works, extra metal clip goes in the main light connector to hold the sidelight bulb to the window, just changed my mini over to halogen, these have proper hole in the reflector and generally much better.

problem located.... released an airlock in the system and it drank 1/2 litre of water, went for a drive and then eventually the temp rose again, another full litre of water in.... close inspection the bottom hose has bulged and has the tiny hole, so guess the new rad cap i put on 2 weeks ago has acc...

can a water pump fail without obvious signs?

hummm brought the mini to work today, popped into town and the temp gauge was swinging towards hot. turned on the internal heater which did not get hot at all, just warm so i assume only convection taking place. rad was full and hot and I got a decent puff of steam as I opened the cap. so i guess I'...

it will tick according to fuel demand.... higher the engine revs or the more the engine is working (hill climbing) the more fuel hence faster ticking. It will also tick rapidly to fill the float bowl when you first turn the key otherwise a gentle once a second or so when driving is normal. If you ge...

I've been through the same gear box twice in 2 years with a standard 1275 (went again after a recon).

I would not rate the gearbox as up to much at all, you could look at a midget gearbox if you wanted a direct swap, otherwise I'm set on getting a ford type9 as soon as I can.

if they are in a classic car then its 5 quid for the car for one day with up to 2 people and children seem to be 1 quid each and there is a lot to see and do so it represents better value than things like the MMOC national ;-0

Some of the mini crowd I've spoken to say that if you use the round box you can improve airflow by drilling a series of holes around it (often find them like this in auto jumble piles). Modified like this With a K&N filter inside its not said to be any less efficient than a cone filter and defia...

mini airbox works well for me with a K&N element, but the intake points backwards so only draws air from the back of the engine bay. Mine is modified to draw cooler air from the front.... new section cut out at the 'front' and the pipe cut and re-glued here with the old hole having a piece of pl...
