Re: New to forum and Morris

Hi. I live in West Wilts so if you fancy a chat over a cuppa then give me a shout...the kettles always on! I have a 68 Traveller and am currently restoring a 47 Morris 8 Series E.

Re: Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire

Hi Dave, We were on holiday for two weeks so I didn't bother replacing it until last weekend. I then realised I needed a few more bits to finish it properly. I took the opportunity to purchased a new unleaded head as by the time I compared the cost of reconditioning mine, there wasn't much in it. I'...

Re: Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire **Photos Added

Got the head off this afternoon. Quite clear what the problem is! Looks like it was about to blow between cylinders 3 &4 too as the gasket had started to split there too. Goodness knows where the missing piece of gasket has gone....should I be concerned? Head looks OK, or at least the valves do....

Re: Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire

Well, I did a compression test this evening and looks like head gasket has failed between no.1 & 2 cylinders. Got a nice strong even reading from no.3 & 4 but nothing from 1 & 2. This may be a daft question but is it typical to get a zero reading or does this suggest something more serio...

Re: Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire

All advice is gratefully received and I am very appreciative that you guys have taken the time to reply. So much so I have borrowed a compression tester and will give it a go tomorrow evening. I'll post up my findings! Just as an aside, would a faulty low tension lead cause such problems or would th...

Re: Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire

I haven't changed the coil merely wired up a replacement to eliminate this as a possible cause. You say never the coil but I have experienced problems with these overheating in the past with Minors and other cars so in my opinion my logic was correct to check it and rule it out. My logic has been to...

Re: Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire

Thanks Dave.
Not going to risk tomorrow until I resolve the problem. I'm still airing on the side of timing (maybe more wishful thinking) so that's my fist port of call.
Bit disappointed that I cant attend tomorrow but will probably go with a friend in his car instead.

Re: Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire

Thank you for you advice. I plan to check the compression this week but thought I would check the timing side first. I did change the rotor arm and the dizzy cap but again no change. My car has a steel vacuum pipe and I did bypass it with a plastic new one but again no change. I checked in the oil f...

Help & Advice Please - Engine Misfire

Hi, I have a standard 68 1098 Traveller which has been running fine until today. At first it ran perfectly but after about 3 miles I could sense that the engine seemed to be pinking more and I seemed to have to accelerate a lot more. As I approached a hill, the car started to pink loudly, in fact it...

As far as I am aware, the trader I spoke to said it was over the weekend and most likely when it was raining and people had gathered in his tent to avoid the rain (so both days!)

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park

I never leave my car unlocked although I do worry about leaving my bonnet up at events in case there are some light figured types about! Hence I always carry a few spare items just in case. I really hope these cowards are not members of our club and I hope they get named and shamed as someone must k...

Thefts at Cornbury Park

I was talking to one of the main parts suppliers during the week who had one of the big spares stands at Cornbury Park. I was staggered to learn that he had over £700 worth of parts stolen over the weekend and another of the big parts suppliers had at least two front wings and a performance exhaust ...

Cornbury Park - Catering Vans or the lack of!

Just got back from a great weekend at the Centenary event. However my family and I together with many other visitors were very disappointed with the lack catering facilities. The caterer that was there on Saturday shut up shop at 2pm as he had run out of food and drink. Then today (Sunday) a differe...

Re: Jumbo The Traveller On Ebay.!!!!!!

This guy often has a Traveller for sale and they always look impressive in the photos. If I recall there was a lot of chat on here about the last one he for sale which was not all it was cracked up to be. Something about the drivers door not fitting correctly because the body was thought to be bent ...

Camping at the National

Hi,
Just a quick question. I have booked in to camp at the National on Saturday night only, but since booking in I am now able to camp on Friday night too.
Can I just turn up on Friday and pay for the additional night or do I have to pre-book?
Cheers, Phil

Re: WHEELER DEALERS

Just caught up on this thread and I must admit to be being pleasantly surprised at the number of positive comments. I dont think there was any attempt to hide the fact that more work was required on the car than was actually shown in the programme and it did make a nice change to see Ed doing someth...

Re: WHEELER DEALERS

I like the programme, but I take it as entertainment, a lot of the time I think I think they have cut corners, or that is cheap as they heve not added in labour costs, I know someone who brought one of the cars featured and yes, bits have fell off since he has owned it. I just watch, take it at fac...

Re: Is anyone brave enough to restore this.

Go on Simon, you know you want it!! I expect that it would be priced at £4k plus by some dealers going on some of the ridiculous prices around at the moment!! Shame though to see it like that as I expect it was once a very nice car! The rear inner wings look amazingly free of road dirt and underseal...

Re: Why do people do it? :-(

Sorry to hear of your experience. There are indeed both buyers and sellers who insist on messing people about (see my comments in the cars for sale section about a complete time-waster when trying to sell my saloon). I can only assume that he thought he could gain a higher price by letting the aucti...
