Re: 12G940 head skim for 1098
Whether skimming will shoot your compression ratio too high will likely depend on whether, or how many times, the head has been skimmed before! The stock thickness is 2.75" (I had one that ran fine at 2.715") and you want 0.320" clearance from exhaust valve face to block to be safe.

Re: A Minor Setback
I on the other hand had an earth wire in the body of an electronic distributor rub against the casing enough to cause it to short, break down and burn a portion of the wiring loom out. Back to points with a good set!

It does sound like it might be easier to try a richer needle instead, as you mention in your inital post.
Knowing which needle you have in there currently would help!

Re: 1380 build
May I add - consider the camshaft your'll be using for the build. Different static compression ratios will suit some better than others - dynamic compression is a consideration. AC Dodd recommends no higher than a 9.3:1 static CR for his tame but torquey road cams, for example.

Re: Driving to Scotland - Any Tips?
Fantastic, perhaps you have caught the bug for touring in your Traveller and will join the Minors on Tour next year? Belgium I think. That sounds nearer to my part of the world - is there a link to a homepage? Details will likely go up nearer the end of this year. It's always the same week a...

Has the spring behind the moving part of the latch on the pillar gone walkabout? This is the issue I had that caused the symptom you describe with yours - and yes the plate behind that will likely fall if both screws are fully undone. I replaced my latch by removing one screw entirely and loosening ...

Re: Improving the Anti-Roll Bar
I like the idea of the tapped plate, adding strength and certainly less fiddly than tightening a nut inside the engine bay whilst holding the screw still under the car! My concern with the plastic blocks is that they wear and the ARB can cause an audible knock - hence my preference for a polyurethan...

Re: Improving the Anti-Roll Bar
Poly bushed front mounts on. 3/8" bolts with 12mm steel tube strengeners welded in (9.6mm ID fit perfectly around the bolts) and some steel taper washers to make up the angle of the chassis leg on the inside of the engine bay. Conveniently the bolts come through just in front and behind the eng...

Last time I did this I put the axle stands at the back, behind where the rear shackle plates hang, but with a long plank of wood between them to spread the load. Nothing appeared to collapse...

Re: Packaging.
I agree this is a good move, especially as it's biodegradable rather than a "recyclable" plastic.
It's perhaps worth noting that even "recyclable" plastics can only be re-used a finite number of times - usually only once(!) - so aren't really renewable at all.

Some lead replacements also claim to protect against ethanol, such as the FBHVC endorsed Millers VSPe, to pick one at random (no affiliation). The proof will be in the pudding, or rather whether our hoses turn into pudding.

Re: Improving the Anti-Roll Bar
My thoughts exactly, the "original" off the shelf kit will crush the chassis leg if overtightened given the lack of strengthening tube. Not a massive job and steel tube is cheap at least.

Re: Improving the Anti-Roll Bar
The brackets with the SuperPro bushes are reassuringly heavy duty, those are M10 bolts that I'll likely swap for 3/8".
Now I'm wondering about doing this properly with an internal strengthening tube like the eyebolts...

Indeed! It's written in a style I find familiar as a data analyst.
The lovely thing about the Moggy is I have no doubt that we'll either have to do nothing or adapting to this will be simple and cheap.

Re: E10 fuel introduction
My understanding is that an increased ethanol content would do the following. 1. Fuel will go "stale" more quickly in summer/show-only cars. 2. Moisture attracted by ethanol content could corrode fibreglass tanks, rubber fuel pipes and float bowls. Perhaps moisture separating fuel filters ...

I'm going to give fitting the following mount type a try, perhaps somebody knows the size of the allen-headed screw that holds the existing pipe clamps to the bracket?

If those are all the advisories then from that alone I'd say it's in good nick!

Re: 9” drum brake query
The Riley brakes are also deeper than the standard so that'll be a clue. I'd guess Wolseley.
They should be nice and effective if they are 9", although still requiring more effort than modern cars or those with a servo added.
