Re: Agreed Valuation

I once had an insurance valuation by one of the chaps at the Morris Minor Centre, Birmingham (part of the David Manners group) on the Wolverhampton Road. You could give them a ring and see if its something they still do. That said, I haven't needed their services for many years; the insurance compan...

Re: Stainless Steel Exhausts

Just noticed I edited the original post in 2002, so 13 years for a mild-steel exhaust isn't doing too badly, is it?

Price is a factor (isn't it always?) but I was wondering if anyone knows where I'd get the best quality. Aside from going down the bespoke route, although...?

Re: Stainless Steel Exhausts

Sorry to resurrect this thread (it seems I started it in 1969, so it predates me by 24 years; is that a record?) but Phyllis has just passed her MOT. :D The two advisories were: 1. Oil Leak - "They all do that, Sir..." 2. Noisy exhaust Investigation with a bodger created a rather nic...

Re: Where is the dipstick?

My modern (a LR Disco) hasn't got a dipstick but there is a section of the computer menu that will show an oil reading if the engine is cold. Works just as well as a dipstick (although not as simple, I grant you) and means that I can check the oil without getting my hands dirty. Someone must ...

Re: 10 years, where did they go?

I remember the website rallies; the organisation of them at least. I don't think I ever attended one although I came close for the first. Unless someone on here knows differently... As for Phyllis, she's running well although she's long overdue an intensive clearn and polish. I've made it my n...

Re: 10 years, where did they go?

11th February 2002 for me. :) Can't say I'm a regular any more, although I do pop in from time to time.

I've just taken a look at the 25 users who joined back in the early days; where have they all gone to? :( Nice to see a few friendly 'faces' still around. :D

Re: Window washer original location

What a jolly good idea! I hadn't thought of that as a possibility. Attempting to keep mine looking as original as possible, I fitted an electric push-to-make switch on the existing under-dash bracket. Obviously this only squirts when pressed and, upon releasing the switch, the motor stops. I like th...

Aside from that, obviously! It's not called 'Idiot Font' for nothing, but I suppose they wanted something that looked 'hand drawn' without being so although there are many more acceptable fonts now.

Re: Some pictures of the car

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this (got a bit lost in the thread) but surely trafficators are supposed to lift up, stay up, and show a permanently illuminated bulb when doing so. There is no flasher unit when they are connected correctly - they shouldn't flap like you're about to take off! Wh...

Re: bouncy speedo!

Bit late to the party on this one, but I had exactly the same problem on Phyllis. Her needle had bounced for the whole time I've owned her although I'd noticed it getting worse in recent months. I didn't do anything about it, rather than just live with the bounce. Until I noticed that the odometer h...

Re: TODAY MY MOGGIE ..........GOT A ?

Crikey! :o If that's the trophy you get for being a runner up, should we worry about the state of Britain's gold reserves in view of the winner's cup? Congratulations! Today, Phyllis didn't have anything done to/with her but half-term is coming, so she'll be pootling around Worcestershire, I'm...

Re: Tyres

Last weekend, I had a set of Toyo 155s fitted to Phyllis as the old Firestones were past their prime. Without the safety bead on the sidewall, the Toyos look better and seem to have a more authentic style to them that befits the car. I've always run 155s and have never (touch wood) had any trouble w...

Re: GIVING UP A MODERN CAR

Phyllis was my first car and when I bought a modern for daily use, I explained the situation to my new insurers who happily gave me the 4/5 years NC after my insurers (AON, now FJ) wrote a note to them explaining my claims history.

Just out here on the Worcestershire / Herefordshire border. The Birmingham branch have a rally coming up in April (I think) and you'll find plenty of people who will chat about their cars and talk to you about yours. :) Failing that, there are many knowledgeable people on here who will be only to wi...

Re: Bonnet Safety Catch - Spring position

The spring does need to be under some tension - not a vast amount, but it is there the hold the rod in the closed position. You know that, already, of course; but indulge me for the sake of completeness. You may find that the spring you have is a different length to ones used on other cars - I know ...

Re: What is your New Years Resolution?

To drive Phyllis more this year. After a house move and the resultant jobs (the list of which keeps getting longer) and the awful weather (there is so much mud on the roads out here, it's lethal - and a chore to wash off every time!) she hasn't been driven much at all. This year, however, I hope tha...

Okay, last one, then I'll leave you all in peace again. The DfT is in favour of exemption for pre-1960...

Re: no more MOT for pre 60 cars

I find the whole scenario thoroughly concerning; not because of the danger of unroadworthy wrecks charging along the High Street but for more sinister reasons. If there is an exemption for pre-1960 vehicles, what conditions will need to be met? Will there be a limit on the use of these vehicles? Is ...
