Re: My daily driver - 1954 Split screen 803cc
Welcome Andy! My traveller (Monty) was my only and everyday car for several years - we went everywhere, holidays the lot and it never once let me down. My son convinced me to sell it eventually and get a pre war Morris Minor instead - not an everyday car at all really though! I do rather miss my tra...

Re: Seven leaf or five leaf springs?
I've had my 1934 Oxford Sixteen Six springs refurbished at Midland Motor Springs in Nottinghamshire. Obviously these are not readily available like those for the post war Morris's but excellent service and a cracking job done. I agree the modern replacement stuff is often somewhat dodgy!

Pretty impressed with the Clarke cover - son-in-law has his blob of iron oxide (Nissan something or other) under one for the last year or so in all weathers. I expect it will be a while yet before he's finished rebuilding it!

Re: Rear heated window (Traveller)
I fitted heated rear screens to both rear doors on my traveller, and a heated windscreen. Used an illuminated centre off two way with via relays so that both front and rear couldn't be on at the same time and put too much strain on the electrics 9charging etc) front screen only needs to be on for a ...

Re: Powdery rear view mirror
Might be worth trying a quick coat of wood hardener! sounds weird but it's basically polystyrene dissolved in a solvent.. A light coat may well 'bind' the surface which is all you want to do really. Don't put a heavy coat on - just a light one to seal the surface.

Re: replacing engine steady bar
Geoberni's is the correct way up. It is more difficult to get at the securing nut of course, but if you mount it upside down (like yours is) then the angles are all wrong and it puts pressure and strain in the wrong place. No problem taking the single head bolt out if you have to but agreed do it wi...

Re: Roll over jigs
You can get a good quality one (advertised in several mags) for not much over £100. I suspect that by the time the club had sorted out suitable indemnity insurance and all the associated paperwork it wouldn't be cost effective. IMHO much better just to buy one and sell it afterwards - then you can k...

Re: Fitting seat belts in a factory built 1960 convertible
Years ago I fitted inertia reels to my MGB and later to a Midget I rebuilt. they're specially designed for the reel to be mounted horizontally an the rear 'scuttle' if you know what I mean and I didn't have any issues with them slipping off of shoulders.

There's an awful lot of really poor quality condensers out there - well documented fault - best to get good quality ones from the Distributor Doctor or somewhere like that. Bit ,more expensive but they work!

Re: 1957 Bolt on indicator kit
Better Car Lighting does some neat 'conversion' kits that fit within the existing lamp housings and provide multi function from the one lamp such as rear side light, brake and indicator all in one original fitting. No need for extra lamps at all. Worth a call - I've used them on my pre war Minor and...

Re: Chrome wheel rings
Do you mean just the rings that go around the edge of the wheels, or the 'perforated' type trims that are held in place by the hub cap and fill the space to the outside diameter of the wheel? If the latter, then I have a full set new in box (I no longer have my traveller) that you could buy if you'r...

Re: Died on me, now iregular running
I would certainly focus on ignition system.. condensers make them do funny things when they're starting to break down. Make sure you get good quality stuff though - there's a lot of cheap rotor arms out there that actually conduct electricity and also dodgy condensers etc.

Re: Traveller load space cover and back door glass.
I fitted heated rear and front screens to my traveller and it was my only vehicle for several years and through some yucky weather/winters. Absolutely brilliant - I had an alternator of course to cope well with the additional load, wired the screens through a two way (centre off) switch so that I co...

Re: Removing front seats in traveller
don't forget to wire brush any undersea etc off the bit of the bolt sticking out before squirting penetrating fluid (NOT WD40 use something like Plus Gas) on. The undersea and any other crud on the threads can make them seize up as you undo them from the inside.
