Re: Front Supsension NOVICE advice needed
As above, if you have a friend or family member who works on cars, it would be a good idea to do the job with them so you know it's being done safely. You really don't want to do something wrong unknowingly that then fails while you're driving it. With regards to steering being safety-critical, I th...

Re: Rough idling on 1967 Minor
You can check the fuel pump by disconnecting the fuel line from the carburettor and switching on the ignition, collecting the fuel in a container. If it's delivering a good flow of fuel, you can rule that problem out. You say the position of the choke made no difference. Are you sure it's not stuck ...

Check that the choke isn't stuck on.

Re: Accidental Christmas card
Hi,
I've just got back from holiday so I've only just seen these replies. I'm glad my photo seems to have generated interest.
Jagnut, it does rather look like that on a cold start at the moment!

Re: Accidental Christmas card
I've managed to get it back now. The Moggie made it up the hill and home while modern cars failed, due to its skinny tyres, I think.

Accidental Christmas card
A heavy snow storm started as I was driving home and I was forced to abandon my car, luckily not far from my house. I did accidentally create a great Christmas card picture, though!
I'm terrified it's going to get smashed into now, there are cars sliding all over the place!

Re: Warming up a Moggie in icy weather.
I often put in the choke too early and it stalls when I stop at a junction. Same as mentioned above, I'm wary of running rich for too long. I'm not sure exactly why it stalls when I stop at a junction specifically. It doesn't cut out at idle, it's only when stopping and coming quickly back to idle f...

Re: Alfred's First Winter Outside
Cuprinol 5-star followed by Burgess Wood Sealer then Burgess Top Gloss. I gave it another couple of coats of top gloss in the summer. The gaps in the wood opened up pretty much immediately and I have been keeping them filled with Captian Tolleys.

Re: First Minor. Daily drive - winter advice request
The points Vs electronic question is always controversial around here! I fitted an electronic distributor shortly after I got the car and haven't had a single ignition related problem for eight years. No maintainance necessary. What I can never understand is the advice to keep a spare set of points,...

Re: First Minor. Daily drive - winter advice request
Hi, Congratulations on your purchase! I've driven a Traveller as my daily car for eight years and have a real love-have relationship with it. I had the chassis repaired extensively a few years ago and I keep it coated in a thin coat of Dinitrol wax which seems to have done the job so far, desp...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak
And... It still leaks. There is no water entering any other part of the car, even with heavy rain and wind. The passenger side in the same position is bone dry, as is everywhere except for the rear driver's side footwell. I'm really not sure what to do with it now. I'm considering taking it to the M...

Re: Alfred's First Winter Outside
My Traveller had new wood less than a year ago and it's already blackening around the joints despite keeping them filled. I do wonder how long I should expect to get out of it.

Re: Alfred's First Winter Outside
I often wonder how long it used to take brand new Travellers to become a rotten mess. Most of them would have lived outside, I imagine.

Re: A strange one.
I would guess that it's the action of removing and reseating the damper that's fixing it rather than adding oil. Definitely sounds like it's jamming. It might be worth removing the oil from the piston and fitting the damper to see if it slides up and down freely (without the resistance of the oil). ...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak
I think I've identified the problem and hopefully(!) fixed it. We'll see... I found two problems. The first was that the capping was a tiny bit short of the end so the water could run out between the gap. I added a short length of plastic to 'extend' the capping and block the gap. I blocked it up wi...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak
After having to actually scoop water out of the car after heavy rain on Thursday morning (passenger side was bone dry), I've got round to removing the capping. Water is certainly getting in from under the capping at a specific point, as shown in the picture below. It seems to be coming in at the end...

Re: Electrolytic rust removal
I've also used citric acid with great success. Like Panky said, it's safe and cheap. It's also odourless. A few years ago I stripped and rebuilt a Suffolk Colt lawnmower, back to bare metal. I did it all with citric acid. I did find that it needed a light coat of oil immediately after being removed ...

Re: Stone Chip or Underseal
A few years ago I had my chassis redone by the Morris Minor workshop. Stripped back to bare metal, extensive replacement of sills, crossmember and other bits, primed and stone chipped. They also put a light mist of dinitrol waxoyl style stuff over it. It's held up perfectly so far, being driven ever...

Re: Just fitted Declan's clutch linkage. Very impressed!
Hi, The kit is from forum member Declan Burns so you need to contact him for details. The level of improvement you'll see depends on how bad your current linkage is, I imagine. Mine was particularly awful and had that same on/off action while also being very heavy. It made me really dread stopping o...

I drive past that car every day and it has indeed been there for years, just parked at the side of a main road.Castle Rock wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 10:28 pm Spotted today north Hastings, E. Sussex… been there for yonks apparently!
