Just fitted Declan's clutch linkage. Very impressed!

Hi, After a terrible day yesterday replacing the steering rack gaiters and track rod end boots, getting covered in EP90 and grease, struggling to get the things on then lamenting the fact that after all that work, the car wouldn't feel any different, I finally got round to fitting Declan's rose join...

Re: battery lead connectors

I'm guessing you took the photo left handed... Phones seem by default to think 'top' of a landscape image is with the top of the phone to the left when taking it. It took me a minute to realise this photo was upside down. I thought I was looking at a very heavily modified Minor with the engine in t...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak

That's good to hear that yours seems to be fixed. I think I'm going to have to resort to removing the capping. A daunting task since it involves removing the back seat and somehow separating the capping with all the sealant attached! If it's got to be done, though... I'm wondering if perhaps I could...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak

I've just tested it with some water and nope, it's still leaking. If anything it's now worse. Back to the drawing board!

Re: mirrors

I'd imagine that the main problem would be that the arm would be wrong. I had those clamp on mirrors for years and while they did work, they weren't great. The mounting looked messy, they weren't in the ideal position and they fouled the quarterlights, preventing me from opening them. Your experienc...

No washer on sump plug

Hi, I changed my oil today and found that there was no washer on the sump plug. Presumably it fell off last time and I didn't notice. Anyway, since I didn't have a spare one and had to refill the oil, I put the plug back in without the washer. Do you think it will be okay just to keep an eye on for ...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak

I've been dribbling in Captain Tolley's at regular intervals since yesterday and it's no longer running out the bottom. Since it was initially running out of the same place as the water, I'm hoping this means that pathway is now blocked. I'll give it a try with some water tomorrow.

Re: Impossible to stop water leak

Okay, I've been out there for another hour with a jug of water. With the window open, the water doesn't enter but when closed, it starts spilling over. I took another video. https://youtube.com/shorts/baz1x521iNk?feature=share I've found a temporary solution to the main spilling over, made out of so...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak

Hi, There is sealant between the capping and the runners, making it hard to remove for inspection. What's confusing me is the way it runs over the top of the runner when it appears to be sealed in the same way as the inside. I'm going to try dribbling water more slowly to try and find the exact poin...

Re: Impossible to stop water leak

Okay, I've taken some photos and video to see if anyone can spot the problem. Here's a video showing where the water enters on the driver's side and the lack of water on the passenger side. https://youtube.com/shorts/x29pPJYYCRE?feature=share Driver's side PXL_20221026_151523108.jpg Passenger side P...

Impossible to stop water leak

Hi, Since I bought my Traveller in 2014 it's leaked water into the rear driver's footwell. Since then I've tried seemly everything to stop it. Sealing the roof seam, sealing all around the b post and centre rail capping, sealing all the seams around the floor. None of this has worked. The wood has n...

Re: Just rebuilt fuel pump. Extra washer?

Thanks for the replies, that's reassuring. I'm hoping the leak is now fixed. There was a bit of a weep from the outlet when I refitted it but I tightened it up and it seems okay now. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks,
James

Just rebuilt fuel pump. Extra washer?

Hi, On Thursday, I found that my fuel pump was leaking petrol from around the diaphragm. I ordered a rebuild kit and finished reassembling it earlier today. My only concern is that I have an additional fibre washer left over. I cannot find any that are missing from the diagram. I installed a thin on...

Re: Replacing wheel cylinders

I had the same issues when bleeding the brakes. I bled the front, then the back. There were no more bubbles coming out but the pedal was still not hard. I bled the back brakes again and told my wife, who was operating the pedal, to "really stamp on it as hard as you can". A huge load of ai...

Re: Electronic ignition

A better option in such a scenario is to fit a full new 45D electronic distributor from Powerspark. I fitted one in 2015 and it did make the car start and run better. Perhaps the electronic element contributed but I imagine the main reason for the improvement was the elimination of wear and fully fu...

Re: Sensible upgrades ??

Water temperature gauge is the standard 'temperature gauge'. More importantly, in my opinion, fit an oil pressure gauge. I have both fitted on a dual bracket under the dash next to the driver's door. Both are Durite and the oil pressure gauge is mechanical and the temperature, electric. They're both...

Re: Powerless!

First, double check that the choke isn't stuck. It's caught me out before as the outer sheath of the cable can snag where it attaches to the carb. For a base setting, if I remember correctly, screw the mixture adjustment nut on the jet all the way up then back it up two full turns. Start and warm up...

Re: Powerless!

You should still check the compression. If the head gasket has blown between two cylinders, it won't cause it to overheat and it won't cause dirty oil. A compression test will also give an overview of general engine condition so is the best place to start, in my opinion.

Re: Powerless!

Ah, okay, understand now. Since you mentioned replacing the carb, I assumed you'd just mistyped and missed off the b the first time round. Yes, if there's oil being forced out the engine, and not just dripping, you must have pressure in the crankcase. What type of breather system do you have and is ...

Re: Powerless!

Hi, Could you give more detail on the oil problem, please? When you say it was being pushed out of the carb, where exactly was it going in and out? I can only imagine it being sucked in through the breather tube and then into the engine, or was it something else? When it had too much oil, was it run...
