Re: very stiff engine
If as said, when the crank is installed it should rotate evenly, without binding. And you could try attaching one of the con-rods out of the bore, just to confirm that you have the correct con-rod bearings. Also, check that the new rings fit in the bore correctly. Try one of them in the bore to conf...

Re: Green Flag Warning
My wife has had AA roadside assistance and recovery for the last 18 years. Used it the first 2 years and was 'recovered' from Manchester and birmingham respectively on both occasions. Ab Fab!! Gives me piece of mind, as I don't have to collect her. However, on both occasions it was the same problem ...

Perhaps re-visit the cylinders, as you have just changed them. Did you replace the shoes as well. And did you re-adjust the the shoe adjusters?

Re: confused.com
I've noticed this on almost everything. AA breakdown, House insurance, TV+internet. I think these companies hope that you can't be bothered to ring and check the renewal price. Amazingly, I think this is common. If you can find a better price with a competitor, then, go back to your old quote and se...

You could always try speedy cables for your speedo to be recallibrated. Unless you can get the correct drive cheaper.

Re: Differential ratio 1962 948cc
As far as I know the Minor 950 was fitted with the same type of axle as the baby Austin (same differential and brakes) BUT the Austin axle is narrower (3-4in) much like the midget.

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
Just thought I'd mention. I have an early 803 rocker cover (with a vertical straight through outlet) fitted to mine. I have noticed that the later covers (curved over horizontal) have a plate on the inside, covering the exit hole BUT has a gap either side of plate, presumedly, to deflect the oil awa...

Re: beware CLARKE GRINDING DISKS
Yep, about the difference. The cutting discs are very fragile. I was told not to apply any pressure and not to twist it in motion, by my local vendor. And hold it firmly and solidly, trying to avoid any 'kick-back'. They are no use for grinding and that is not their intension anyway. i have found th...

Re: Head gasket
On the subject of leaking head gasket. I recently changed my gasket and found that it was leaking near the front of the head (by the engine serial number). It appeared to be seaping out of the gasket. It might be worth checking all around the area where you see the leak. Thermostat housing, hoses, t...

Re: Fitting different gauges to a minor
You could try 'TIM' gauges on ebay. Pretty much everything there. Not as pretty as old smith gauges but they are good. Mechanical (capillary) temp gauge and mechanical oil pressure (with tube) are suitable. 2.5inch diameter. Electric Rev counter too. These smaller gauges can be mounted under dash.

Re: fitting disk breaks nd different axle?
As regards the marina rear axle. If it hasn't been converted already You'd need to change the axle 'perches'. These are the brackets that are welded to the axle and sit on the road springs. Basically, cut off the old 'marina' perches and weld new 'Minor' ones on (at the correct angle and distance on...

Re: Trials of a new loom, and wonderment
I haven't the courage to go near my wiring loom. Nothing on it is original. It took me 5yrs to work out how the indicaters work in conjunction with the semaphores! Unfortunitly, it has various wires for the rear light/indic/brake cluster, But all of them are red! The previous owner/restorer had done...

I have no sympathy for speeders. That is until I got caught. It really, really, really hurt having to write a cheque for £60 and giving it away!!!

Re: Discs dragging?
Yes, what you say is true BMC. However, I have never heard about this info and there is no mention of it in the Morris Minor modifictaion booklet. I fitted Marina discs/axle and servo a long time ago. The Marina conversion requires a relatively expensive bearing kit and changes to the wheel stud PCD...

Re: morris to ital engine
I have just done a similar conversion. I think the starter motor may sit too low and hit the chassis rail. I acquired a back plate conversion kit that lifts the 'starter' further up. I had to cut a chunk off the bell housing (the large starter motor housing section) as the clutch pedal fouled it wit...

Re: Discs dragging?
Good point about the type of bearings, I was describing the standard Minor type, which are the angular contact, and were retained for, among others, the Midget and Metro based disc brake conversions (as I have), Wooah there!!! Are you saying that you have Midget disc brakes on your Minor? If so, ho...

Re: exhausts
I had a triple branch fitted and I changed it for Minor 'Pee-shooter' exhaust/manifold (Actually it was a Mini 1000 manifold, almost the same, and minor exhaust fits straight on) just as an experiment. I only noticed a slight drop in power. However, I don't very often rev higher than 4000, so maybe ...

I use a 'Shell' own brand lead substitute. It's about £5-6 a bottle and will cover 250 litres of fuel. It has a handy measuring spout. I've used the same stuff for years and to this day I don't know if it makes any difference. It's relatively cheap and I am aware of the differing thoughts on the sub...
