Re: Choke return spring?
I bought a pattern cable and it doesn't have the twist lock like the original it just pulls out and relies on friction to lock it but of course the return spring overcomes the friction & the choke just goes off if you let go of it. I cant see a problem in removing the return spring & relying...

Choke return spring?
My 1968 minor has a return spring on the carb end of the choke cable, is this correct? The choke knob is quite hard to pull out & springs back in if you let go due to spring pressure. I've just fitted a new choke cable & the inner cable is a solid cable rather than multistrand so surely it'l...

Re: Spotted today.
The last 3 times I've stayed at Burton constable hall caravan site in E.Yorks there's been an early Morris 1000 in blue parked up near the bar, looks really nice and I'm sure it has an owners club sticker in the window. Is that anyone on here?

Do the ones from JLH come with the required fittings or are they extra? How do they fit?

Re: Drum brake issues. Getting warm
The pedals ok, so I dont fancy stripping the master cylinder out to find out if the seals there or not. All 4 drum seem to bind slightly in one spot when you spin the wheels by hand but would that be enough to make the wheels warm when driving or is that normal?

Re: Drum brake issues. Getting warm
Yes, they're the 8" drums. I'm not familiar with the top hat seal that should be there, is it an easy thing to check if it's there & re-fit if it's not?

Drum brake issues. Getting warm
I sort of think I know the answer to this but would like opinions anyway :-? I've just replaced the front discs on my car with some standard drums, all adjusted correctly, the brakes are pretty poor and lack any real bite (and it's not just that I'm used to discs, they'd struggle to lock the wheels ...

Re: Registration with V5
Not if the date of liability (most recent tax or sorn declaration) was before 1998.

Re: Registration with V5
If the car hasn't been taxed or sorned since 1998 there's no need to declare sorn on it even after a change of keeper. If you do it's just something else to remember every year to renew it (then if you forget they'll fine you).

Re: Exhaust heatshield
So there's more chance of it rotting the floor by having it than of causing any damage by not having it?

Exhaust heatshield
How important is the exhaust heatshield? I presume it screws to the passenger side floor above the silencer box? I was underneath my Minor at the weekend giving it a good coat of dinitrol & noticed that mine doesn't have one. Am I in danger of heating up my floor or setting fire to the dinitrol ...

You say "modern" SU fuel pumps are dual polarity, does that mean 1960's originals are not?

Fuel pump polarity
My Minor has previously been converted to negative earth and has a Facet electronic fuel pump fitted, I was thinking of getting an original SU electric pump as a back up because they're serviceable unlike the electronic one. Can the original SU type be run on negative earth or would I have to conver...

I've absolutely no idea what pressure it runs at, it was on the car when I got it.
Is the delivery pressure marked on the pump anywhere?

Re: Facet fuel pump
No, there's no pressure regulator it runs a pipe straight to the carb.
Will it be doing any harm?

Facet fuel pump
My minor is fitted with a Facet electric fuel pump which ticks all the time that the ignition is turned on. Is this normal? I believe the standard pump stops ticking after it's built up pressure, should the Facet pump do the same?
Thanks.

Re: Clutch freeplay quick question
2" feels like too much though, half the clutch pedal travel is used up before it starts to lift the clutch, I'll give it a tweak tomorrow to bring it down to around 1 1/4".
Thanks.
Thanks.
