Well I've had a proper look and decided that the rubber between the bowl and the wing was wrong, not large enough on the OD so it wasn't reaching the corner of the wing. Because of this I was a bit reluctant to try too hard for fear of damaging the paint! However with the correct gasket and a bit mo...

Hi Louise, Thanks for your response. I took all this apart so long ago (20+ years) that I can't really remember what with new wings, headlamp bowls chrome, bits etc. I have no metal spring from the bowl, the whole inner headlamp assy is held by the 3 adjustment points only (it all looks correct and ...

Headlamp Rims

I'm having a job fitting my headlamp rims (well I can't) When hooked on at the top, the bottom of the rim wont go over the chrome part that holds the actual glass lamp. Seems like it wants squeezing oval to get some more dimension out of it. Thought I remember these went on/off quite easily? I don't...

I did in the end get hold of some metric bushes which were too big on the OD and too small on the ID and I turned them to fit (I know its not good to m/c oilites but what I had wasn't much good!) and yes the shaft is worn and unfortunatly the bush needs to go over the unworn bit to get to the bit th...

Hi, I agree it's not difficult to replace the bushes as I have lathe access, but they are a really odd size neither imperial (I would have thought) nor metric!
I was hoping to just buy and fit a pair of new oilites.

My spacer appears to be about 5/16 thick although I can't think why it's this thick, and as a result of this the full nut with shakeproof washer on the inside of the chassis rail have run out of thread! I haven't got a major problem with it but I don't think it is right and I know Mr. MOT wouldn't l...

Eyebolt spacer. If its not meant to have one you will not be able to line up the eyebolt and the bracing strut to drop the nut & bolt through the hole. I have fitted a spacer and it all looks ok except that the original 9/16 bsf nut is now too short for whats left of the thread and as I understa...

I didn't want to start an argument! I thought if, a reversing light was manually operated a visual indication was required to be seen by the driver to reduce the chance of it being left on and an indicator light wasn't required if the reversing light was operated by the gearbox. No thoughts on the s...

Eyebolt spacer or not?

I have nearly finished my MM and am now confused about the spacer (shown in the manual) which is fitted between the eyebolt and the chassis leg, should it be there or not, as it will obviously alter the camber angle of the wheel. Originally on mine none were fitted although the car was fitted with t...

Split Screen Fitting

Just thought you might like to know (or not) how I got my splitscreen screens in. You know how it is, bodyworks all painted, new seal, nice clean glass and been told by ESM that it's a bit of a pig!. Drivers side first, glass in the rubber and some rubber lube around the body groove. Located the bot...

I never thought of the gasket leaking but I am surprised the oil level is that high while stationary. I was going to take the dipstick out and actualy measure the oil level with respect to the gearbox innards. Looking at the official workshop manual the layshaft does in fact start off in the bell ho...

Sill finishers don't fit

Anybody had any problems with sill finishers? I've virtually finished my 2 door Series MM (high headlights) and need to fit them, and they seem to 'thick' at the thin end ie they stick out of the body line by the best part of 3/16! I cut a long 'vee' out of the top edge of one so that it would close...

Leaking Series MM Gearbox

I hope someone can advise! My Series MM has been worked on over the last few years and as the time draws nearer for use I thought I would top up the gearbox which was down on level. However now I have topped up it seems to leak (without being driven) and drip out the hole in the bottom of the gearbo...
