Re: Car for sale

You will need some recent photos. Has it deteriorated in storage? If you can get it running it will sell better. It is harder to value modified cars as it depends what has been done, and how well. An auction might set its value, maybe eBay.

Re: Oil leakage

I'm sorry to be posting this so late, after you dismantled your engine, but were you using the correct grade of oil? My son gave me some oil which was 'too thick' for his motorbike and I used it in my Minor, a high miler. The new oil was consumed rapidly, it leaked from the rear of the engine and th...

Re: Gearbox overhaul

I found the parts from BM to be of good quality. Dismantling first gear isn't essential if you are just replacing bearings but if you've gone that far I would prefer to inspect all the internal parts.

Re: Gearbox overhaul

I rebuilt my gearbox a couple of years ago, replacing reverse gear which had broken, plus bearings and seals. I used the Haynes manual and I don't recall any special tools being needed. The only problem was a sprung detent ball which disappeared over my shoulder, never to be seen again. To avoid thi...

Re: How many Minors are left?

I wouldn't rely on those websites. They can only be as good as the recorded data. I have two 1000 saloons, one is correctly listed as 'Morris Minor 1000 saloon 948 cc', the other as 'Morris saloon rigid body', which is much less likely to come up. When the cars were put on the DVLA computer years ag...

Re: Engine size (cc)

I wouldn,t assume ista Gold Seal engine unless it has an invoice to show its genuine. Over the years a lot of scrapyard engines have received a coat of gold paint.

All that glistens...

Re: Help! Tie bar won't line up.

I had trouble fitting one of mine. Turned out the front bracket was bent, not enough to be obvious, just enough to be awkward. CCured with large hammer.

Re: Recommended body shops near Eastleigh Hampshire?

Hello, I will be doing some welding soon on my '54 and you are welcome to come and see and maybe practice welding some scrap, which is how I learned to weld. I'm near Romsey so not too far away. Alternatively there is a good trade welder nearby but he charges £30 an hour. let me know if you are inte...

Paint for Bronze Dash

Can anyone advise the correct colour for painting a 1954 bronze dash, or the closest match possible? My local DIY shed has only dazzling golds. I would prefer a spray can if possible.

Re: Advise needed for crashed minor.

The body section of the factory workshop manual contains details on straightening the more common types of distortion of the shell. You can sometimes get body jacks from tool hire shops or Machine Mart sell them.
