Handbrake wear probably is unnoticeable on a modern. disposable car
My brother-in-law has just had to have the handbrake on his 3 year old Mondeo replaced due to ratchet wear. He didn't know he should press the button in when applying the brake and this has cost him a small fortune.

It won't do any harm to use unleaded until you find out if the cylinder head has been converted (ie has hardened valve seats etc.). If it hasn't been converted you should start to use an additive such as Castrol Valvemaster.

According to the DVLA the car was first registered on 6/2/1970 and the last V5 was issued on 1/6/2005.
According to the RAC the last owner change was 12/4/1997 and there were 6 previous owners, but this may be out of date.

The white emulsion is quite common and may not be the head gasket.
Is there water in the oil or oil in the water? Has there been loss of power?
If not the problem may just be condensation due to mostly short journies where the engine doesn't get hot enough.

The seats should be Porcelain Green (a much lighter shade than the body colour) and the carpets are just green (only one shade available as far as I know)

It is just the finishers that are body coloured, not the kick plates.

Sealed beam headlamp failures

My daughter's 1969 saloon has suffered 3 headlamp failures in the last 18 months. What could be causing this?

I have just bought a new rotor arm as part of a service kit. There is no maker's name on it. How can I tell if it is CI?

I have read that you should leave 1/16" above the sump to allow for compression. If you grease the tops of the half gaskets you can then push them up onto the block before offering up the sump. However, oil leaks from the rear of the sump area are usually due to wear in the rear crankshaft oil ...

I have used Sikkens Cetol HLS followed by Sikkens Filter 7 and have been pleased with the result. The only problem is that it is a wood stain so you have to choose a colour and they don't do Ash. As mentioned above Pine (AKA Deal) is lighter than Light Oak. I was advised by Steve Foreman of Travelle...

My wife would love more adjustment on the drivers seat. She is just under 5' and I have had to turn the original seat brackets round 180 degrees to move the seat forward. This must be a common problem for shorter drivers as many people put blocks under the frame and use a cushion behind their back. ...

My local tyre fitter is Lynchford Tyre Company, 158 Kings Road, Fleet, Hampshire. Tel. 01252 816800.
I don't know if they will supply only or just supply & fit. They quoted £36ish for supply & fit Firestone including valve & balance.

Yes, he is right. Firestone have stopped production of the Moggy size. You may be able to get Bridgestone tyres though. I was wrong about Firestone stopping production of the Moggy size! I called in to my local tyre fitter this morning and he told me that he had a delivery of Firestone 145R14 tyres...

Make a note or drawing of how the return springs are attached to the brake shoes. It is easy to put them back the wrong way round.
