Re: barrie's project

"I could even clamp one end closed and clamp the other to the hose pipe". No, don't clamp it closed as the pressure in the system is not very high in normal running (4 to 12 psi as per rad relief valve) and by doing that it will put up to 50psi from the tap in the heater coil. Just a digit...

Re: barrie's project

Can you not hook it up to a tap using garden hose and run water through it that way. Once the water is coming out the other end turn the tap down to a trickle and gently place a digit over the outlet to build up a bit of pressure (not too much though) and then check for leaks.

Don't worry Sandun, the old radiators were made by soldering together.

Re: Dizzy confusion

When ordering from Powerspark you have to choose which car it's going on so I presume the advance curve is set to the car it's ordered for. Having said that lets hope the modern fuel burning characteristics have been taken into account as it's a modern replacement.

Re: Testing new valves & valve guides

As Alan said, the head would be cooled by the water circulating around it but the exhaust valve would get considerably hotter as the gasses pass by it. You might be better testing it by leaving the head at room temperature then heating the exhaust valves to around 100c and see if they drop in nicely...

You'll be lucky Alan, today's drivers can't see the road in front of them let alone your rear facing camera but at least you will record their antics.

Re: Ginger bush

I have several box on the go and they are all out the front. One, since trimming has stayed nice and tidy but the others have become a bit scraggy and will need trimming again soon, any ideas on the reason for this. The only thing I can think of is the others are a bit more rampant than the nice tid...

Re: timing chain - tinkling

As Phil said, I had to do the same. Take the keys and trial fit them in the respective new slots and file them till they do. Once they fit OK try the sprockets on the shafts without keys fitted and if they are too tight to go on only then remove a small amount of metal from the hole. I just used a s...

Re: timing chain - tinkling

That chain is a bit too slack for my liking, if it were mine I would change it. I fitted a duplex set myself a few months ago and it is quieter now and the engine runs a bit smoother too. With a bit of slack in the chain it can make the camshaft run a little out of tune, not much but enough to affec...
