Number plates can be a real pain. As for a car without any ID, a heritage certificate might prove year of manufacture as the chassis number should be stamped into the bulkhead below the wiring loom. You can MOT a car on a chasis number and then it can be inspected by a club official on behalf of DVL...

As per Ray Newells Original Morris minor, March 1951 painted grill introduced with chrome as an option, this remained to the end of mm production. The painted grill on later mm was generally finished in body colour, but black cars were a specail case having a contrasting grey grill, birch grey being...

I think there a good peice of history to have. When I bought the traveller one came with it detailing spec, colour etc. It also stated how near to the end of series 2 production it was. I recently got one for the lowlight which helped date the car to get its original number plate back, this had been...

Might also be worth checking the axle mounting, the shaped bit on either side od the u bolts as these can also rot away allowing free play. I had a similar of the noise when I bought a new minor , but luckily it turned out to be extra long seat belt bolts fitted onto the tunnel, every time you went ...

Chrome plating

Can anyone recommend a good chrome plating company that they have experience of? The chesegrater grill and split bumpers on my lowlight are going to need rechroming as the plating is mostly worn away. I expect this is going to be pretty expensive, has anyone got a rough idea of what is reasonable to...

The day sailing leaves Birkenhead at about 10am and docks in Belfast about 6pm, you get your lunch included in the price. Its a long crossing, but there is a bar and cinema on board!! Night sailing leaves at 10pm and arrives 6am, you get 3 course meal, 4 birth cabin and breakfast. I prefer the night...

Theres plenty to do and see both North and South of Ireland. The Irish sea is the most expensive ferry crossing in UK. Birkenhead to Belfast is an all day or overnight crossing and costs between about £80 day sailing os £250 nite sailing which includes cabins, evening meal and breakfast! We are goin...

The overlap gives a good strong edge, if you also do a few plug welds from above or below on the overlap it makes it even stronger.

Probably better to start with a new one, I find the synthetic chammy's better and they dont go mouldy or slimy like the natural ones. Ive been using an autoglym one for about 5 years and its still got life left in it!!

Main Beam

Was the MM never fitted with a main beam warning light? Not that I'm going to blind other drivers with the MASSIVE 5 inch beams, but its nice to know when there on! Ive read in the manual something about a green light that shines down above the key, but this must have been removed from my car as the...

My 1950 lowlight is fitted with sliding seats in the correct early pattern. It was supplied new to the minstry of supply. There are no other obvious alterations. Ive seen the sliders on a couple of other late cars, but never such an old one. I have somewhere a hand throttle linkage that was on a 197...

Brillant first car! Easy to work on and cheap to insure. I got my first minor at age 15 and restored it, with help from Dad and some very helpful guys from the local branch! I have now owned that car for 16 years and used it more or less continiously since. Would recommend a late saloon, as they hav...

Have you adjusted the master cylinder rod? If you have replaced the cylinder it may need some clearance taken up.

Try jacking the car up at the back and leaving the rear bleeders open over nite to let the air escape by its self, then bleed normally.

Good luck

Ive tied all sorts to stop water getting in the boot. Both type of boot seals and putting some dum dum at the badge holes and even drilling extra holes in both the bottom edge of the boot lid and in the boot floor. Nothing seems to work, but at least the extra holes let the water get away! Best way ...
