Re: Rear Axle Squeak
I presume you have gently tapped the cone hard up to the wheel bearing before tightening up the axle nut? check the bit the seal runs on is not damaged and is it axle oil or brake fluid in the drum.

MM 918cc rear axle, a cautionary tale.
My 51 MM axle has been a little whiney since I last looked at it so I decided to strip it out and check the backlash etc. By leaving the brake backplates on complete with brake cylinders it came out quite quickley as you don't have to undo the back springs or bleed the brakes. I adjusted the backlas...

Re: ladies and gentlemen - i am an idiot....
There is the alternative 22psi oil switch, at least you get a bit more warning, but as bmc says the actual gauge can tell you a lot more.

Re: Alternator failure
Yes, you can't beat a simple dynamo, the old ones are built like a brick toilet and can be skimmed many times, the voltage does drop after many skims as the commutator gets smaller.Of course you can always give it a boost trickle charge at night. My MM minor and morris 8 are still on there original ...

Re: Interesting article about bearing failures
Hi MarkyB, the interferance fit of the con rod bush wasn't right causing fretting hence cracks. bingo the rod let the piston drop then spun round, cut the engine almost in half then snapped the bottom end bolts.

Re: Interesting article about bearing failures
Good article, when I retired I had a job adjusting to small engines. Here are some larger failures :([frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1373188718_17617 [/frame][frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1373188831_17617 [/frame][frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1373188907_17617 [/f...

Re: It was the Coil or so we thought!
My morris MM has the coil mounted upside down ie. HT connection on the bottom. The 1935 morris eight has the coil mounted HT lead at the top!!. My 63 pickup has the coil mounted horizontaly on top of the dynamo. Take your choice

Re: OIL WEEPING FROM HEAD
Hi Glenacre, you could use a minor 1000 one and shorten it. I know the handle bit would stick up more than the MM one but it would do until you get a gen one.
