Re: Swapping SU Carb parts

That is a bit of a mess. If you are getting freeze up I would change the inlet manifold and retain the H2 carb. Here is a suitable manifold. It is open to offers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MORRIS-MINOR-1000-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-AND-INLET/353298275948?hash=item524237de6c:g:o3YAAOSwbIxfJURw I appreciate...

Re: Swapping SU Carb parts

If I remember correctly the H1 and H2 are not interchangeable as regards bolting to the inlet manifold. The bolt centres are different. The H1 is very restrictive and I would use as a minimum the H2 carb. The H series carbs come with different size float chambers. Yes, the previous owner made this ...

Could you please quote the tag details and attach a photo of the carb.
Will do tonight, absolutely.

So are they interchangeable by design? Bolt on, bolt off? Because if so, I can sort all of the issues I've had with this bloody carb spacer sooner rather than later.

Swapping SU Carb parts

Hi everyone,

Just a quick one, is it possible to interchange parts of SU carbs? The tag on top of my float chamber seems to be that of a H1 but the body itself is bigger.

Is it possible that the body could've been swapped?

Re: Cylinder head is coming off!

I most definitely would not recommend trying to start the engine with no restraint! But without valve gear, it is unlikely to actually start? A soft faced mallet is usually a good tool to help loosen the seal. Have you checked for a broken valve spring? Were all the valves lifting properly? All val...

Re: Cylinder head is coming off!

Thanks for the responses everyone! Needless to say, cranking didn't work haha! I've started removing the 4 big studs that also hold the rocker assembly in. Stuck on the fourth, two nut trick isn't working. Would it be too much to get vice grips involved on the smooth portion of the stud? Should I al...

Cylinder head is coming off!

Hi guys, I've had a bit of an intermittent misfire which has changed into "now I can't drive my car" sort of misfire. When idle, it's fine. When revving stationary, it's also fine. But heaven forbid I should actually drive it and put some load on it. Generally speaking, 1st is ok, 2nd is m...

See that would be far too easy! (I hadn't thought about something that close to home)

Although I imagine they're not easy to come by
On the contrary, van chassises are made from scratch and sold by ESM

Re: Refurbish Vs Replace

Oh wow, I've come back to a right discussion haha! I'm 27 and was raised very much by parents who spoiled my siblings and I, but I take pride in being the only one who paid for his own driving lessons and first car :D So I guess I'm very near the generation of millennials who have been consumed by t...

Refurbish Vs Replace

Hi all, Owning a Minor and talking to like-minded enthusiasts has taught me that new isn't always better, which mixed with my minimalist lifestyle, has always pushed me to reuse, refurbish or at worst, recycle. I am not a fan of this throwaway attitude that's generally accepted. I'm also a member of...

Re: Weatherproofing your Mog!

You’re right geo. My wife’s Kuga is bad for it too, with no apparent cause...but not as bad as her VW CC was. It was truly horrendous! Neither cars had the air set to recirculate, which makes the problem worse. One of those little moisture traps being left in the car overnight might help reduce it ...

Re: Weatherproofing your Mog!

Sorry Andymoor94 I don't have any nuggets of advice. Interior fogging up (and subsequent freezing) is something I have been used to for all my motoring years as we have never had a modern super heated car!! Always had to get hot water bottles on the dashboard for a while before I could use my old 1...

Re: Weatherproofing your Mog!

First, you need to find out where the water is entering the car. Most likely culprit is window rubbers, followed by those around the doors. I would start by removing the carpets to see which areas of the floor are wet. My Traveller was terrible and let water in almost everywhere. My saloon used to ...

Re: Weatherproofing your Mog!

My main concern is prevention of tin worm, via a mix of salt and water at this time of year. Water in itself on a well undersealed car I don't see as a major issue, but salted roads are a nuisance. For that reason I keep Doris garaged at this time of year, firing up the engine from time to time to ...

Weatherproofing your Mog!

Hi guys, Since Eugene is running super blissfully, I want to now turn my head to comfort, and winter sure has shown me the nasty side of owning a classic car! I recently had to deal with condensation that had settled on the interior of the windscreen and then frozen! So what are the main contributin...

Re: Clutch replacement time...

Hooray! Clutch swap was successful! God, it's never felt so easy and light to change gear in my life... The pedal is super easy to press, no weight to it at all, gears don't crunch... It's perfect. The odd part is that the friction plate that I removed has PLENTY of meat on it. The thrust bearing al...

Re: Clutch replacement time...

Did you check the new pilot bush fitted over the end of the input shaft before you fitted it? Quality of pattern parts can be a bit variable nowadays, it might need reaming a little. Otherwise check for burrs on the clutch splines (I've had to go at one with a dremel before now)and if there is not ...

Re: Clutch replacement time...

I would suggest that you bag up the old pressure plate and put it somewhere safe so it can be used at a later date. Got on with the job today! So maybe have found part of my issue. The old pressure plate had 1 of the 3 springs missing. Also, the bush on the input shaft was half the size of the one ...
