The screw is 4BA, would be a shame to spoil it with a self taper.

Re: Help to Radio
The only reference I can find to your noise filter dates back to the mid 1980’s and it suggests fitting two across four wires on a mechanical voltage regulator to stop a frying noise on a boats radio transmitter. This suggests to me that it contains a capacitor. Lucas don’t recommend connecting supp...

Re: Wiper motor wiring
Yes that looks right, it is effectively connected to terminal 1. When you fit it back on the car the Green wire goes to Terminal 2 Black/Green to Terminal 1 Black to E The park position is adjusted by rotating the round section, might be worth marking the wiper spindles with taped on pointers to mak...

Re: Wiper motor wiring
Originally it was soldered or crimped as shown in the link from firedrake. Another option would be to connect it externally on the motor terminal marked 1 along with the Black/Green wire from the wiper switch on your car. It might be worth checking inside for frayed wires from where the original wir...

At least that means the reg hasn't been sold. I don't understand the new rules, sometimes reg numbers are non transferable. Will be interested to see how you get on. If you do send any documents to the DVLA make sure you have copies.

Re: Wiring for demister fans
Revised wiring diagram switching the earths. The 40A fuse suggests 26A current draw by the motor, possibly a high start up current but could be up to 5A less as the next fuse down is 30A. I think they have correctly selected what appears to be a high value fuse to stop heat buildup in the fuse which...

Re: Wiring for demister fans
Just the diode in the wrong location and if connected to correct location between blower motor and blower switch would make the demister fans run flat out on the blowers slow setting and vice versa. Opposite to what you want. The funky blower switch has to go in the supply lead with the end of the d...

That's a long time off the road.
Does it have a V5c and is it on the DVLA database. The DVLA like selling good reg numbers so worth checking online to see if the reg still belongs to your car.

Re: Wipers suddenly coming on
I’ve never worked on the minors wipers. Unusually they supply the 12V feed to the motor and switch the earth. Normally with wipers that don’t stop or start on their own it’s to do with the park switch. So it’s worth checking the wire for damage that goes to park switch located at the centre of the r...

Re: polarity change
First check that it has points ignition as it will fry an electronic one. The same with the fuel pump, check it has points and no small black cylindrical device with red and black wires if it has just reverse the connections, will most likely have nothing or a capacitor which can be connected either...

Re: Starving for fuel .
A capacitor across the supply to the pump doesn’t do anything for contact life. The capacitor needs to be across the contacts to stop arcing. The pump on my pickup originally had evidence of something being fitted across the points, it had broken off and just left the leads behind. I fitted a .1uf d...

Re: engine number
Mr Bird, It might be worth contacting KAR engine services, they may not want to give details of work carried out, but for your interest the minimum they ought to let you know is whether it had an unleaded head fitted when it left them and the date the engine was reconditioned.
