Re: What oil filter

I agree with Phil. I purchased a car with EP90 in it and , although the oil was clean when drained, the box was far smoother when refilled with the correct engine oil. Every Morris and Castrol lubrication guide can't be wrong.

Re: wire going to a sender unit that I should not have ?

Mike, There is an oil pressure warning light. It should come on when you turn on the ignition and then go out as soon as the engine starts. The switch is located just behind the distributor. The filter warning light appears to be connected to a temperature sender. When cold, there is no earth return...

Re: What oil filter

Good points. At times we all expect things to be standard unless the poster specified otherwise, but Mike is a new owner, so yes, we need to confirm the engine and box fitted to the car.
Mike, could you post a photo of your engine and confirm if the gearbox is 4 or 5 speed; just to be certain.

Re: wire going to a sender unit that I should not have ?

And to round off, a 1965 car would have a 1098cc engine, so the head would have provision for a sender. The rest of your engine number might give a clue, such as 10MA... You can also look at the fornt left hand side of the block, below the side covers, to see that there is either a plate marked 1100...

Re: wire going to a sender unit that I should not have ?

The filter warning light used green/yellow. Green/brown is usually used for reversing lights (not standard on a Minor) so is likely to have been used by a previous owner to fit an add-on temperature gauge. The ender has been fitted in the correct place if you wanted to use it, or could be replaced b...

Re: What oil filter

NO! As I wrote previously, the Minor gearbox uses the same oil as the engine. Using EP90 will not do it any good. Only the back axle and steering rack use SAE90. If you have already used EP90 in the box, then drain, flush, and refill with the correct 20/50.

Re: Fitting an extra high level brake light.

You can use almost any commercially available high level LED brake light. Some stick to the glass, but might fall off and require new pads, or you can use or make a bracket to screw to the shelf. Wiring really simple: one wire to earth, one wire to the green/purple wire in the boot, either side. You...

Re: Newton Commercial individual check straps

Could you clarify which straps you mean? The only "check" straps that I can think of are those on van doors, and they are made of leather. You have mentioned Newton Commerical, so are you referring to seat webbing (elastic, not vinyl)? What hardware do you need?

Indicators and brake lights are earthed through the lamp clusters to body. The horn has a constant supply and earths via the horn push on the steering column, so I don;t think that it can be a common earth.

Re: Can’t get my daughters car to start

When fitting a rebuilt engine and filling with oil (including pre-filling the filter), then I always turn the engine by hand to start the oil circulating and will then often use the starter for a second or two without ignition to check that the oil pressure does come up before finally starting the e...

Re: Clutch noise - Any ideas please?

Always difficult to diagnose a noise until hearing it, but I wonder whether the adjustment of the clutch is now causing an overthrow so that the pedal is fully depressed, the fork is catching on the clutch cover. I have not had that problem with a Sierra box, but there used to be a Toyota conversion...
