Re: Fitting a new copper fuel line

When I had to cut my fuel pipe I used a piece of rubber tubing and two jubilee clips to connect the two ends together. This was several decades ago and it is still there.

Re: Laygear advice ?

It is possible to round off the chipped teeth on a lay gear using a little hobby grindstone that fits in an electric drill. If you leave it like that it may get worse. It is difficult to tell how worn the selector forks are just by looking. You really need to measure the inside using vernier callipe...

Re: new radiator issue

Does anyone fit new cores to old radiators so that you retain the original top, bottom and sides?

Re: Sill alignment

I think that the new part that you are fitting needs to be bent up at the rear and the bend should go where there is a notch visible in the vertical part. It should then meet up with the front of the rear wing and the rest of the chassis. To confirm this you either need to look at the sill on the ot...

Re: Black water in exhaust

When you burn a hydrocarbon such as petrol the products are carbon dioxide and water vapour. It the exhaust pipe is cold the water vapour will condense inside it and the soot from the exhaust will dissolve in it. That is why it looks like black water dripping out of the exhaust. If you take the car ...

Re: How to Know - over heat Engine of MM 1000

If you think the engine is overheating then turn the heater on as well as the fan that blows the hot air out of the heater.
That should cool the engine down. If it gets too hot in the car then open the windows.

Re: gearbox help please

If the selector fork is worn then why not just replace the selector fork?

Try taking the petrol filler cap off. You may have an airlock.

Re: Chassis Leg Replacement - INSTRUCTIONS

I removed the front suspension eyebolts which go through the chassis legs on both sides and fitted a length of steel piping of the same diameter through both holes.

The only way to find out whether your battery is charging or discharging is with an ammeter.

Re: Engine rebuild

It should be stamped on the back of the old shells. I take the old shells and one of the pistons along to my local motor factors or engine rebuilders and tell them the engine that they have come out of. They get the parts for me.

Roof and gutter sealant solved the problem for me. It is a bit messy to start with but when it sets it provides a good seal.

Re: Rear Rubbing / Grinding

The differential contains two bearings that the ends of the half shafts run in. It is quite possible that one of these has broken up. Should you be unable to get hold of a second hand differential it is much cheaper to replace the bearing than to buy a reconditioned differential unit.

Whenever I read that a car has had the coil and rotor arm replaced and now the car doesn't start I am inclined to suspect the new coil and rotor arm before anything else.
