Re: holes for semaphores
At more or less the same time as the trafficators disappeared ( August 1961, chassis 925448) they also added seat belt fixing points into the sills. Assuming they are original, there are dates on the starter, dynamo, wiper motor, regulator and even the switches! These can all help to date it. From R...

Re: 803 stuck in first gear?
Thank you for all your suggestions! Its most likely as liamonty suggests the selector passed the detent balls and stuck. When I called up the owner had almost removed the gear lever from the box, I tried to get it back in place but it wouldnt go. I removed the lever completely and with a hand lamp c...

803 stuck in first gear?
Does anyone have any ideas why an 803 would stick in first gear? Background on the car is 14000 mile car laid up since the 60s but has been running and selecting well and probably covered at least 3 miles in the last few weeks, then suddenly sticks in first. Im wondering if its anything to do with t...

Re: Reregistration
Have you been in touch with Rob Thomasson from the club, he deals with signing off paperwork on behalf of the club before it goes to DVLA Swansea. Once you have all the relevant paperwork you post it to him, he may arrange someone to visit and then Rob signs and stamps the V765. If you havent been i...

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!
Id have another go with a wooden block and a mallet on the side of the head while its hanging, obviously not too far off the bench or floor!!! Perhaps even mallets used on both sides of the head at once.

Re: MM steering wheel and badges
My clarendon grey traveller has a grey marbled one which matches well! The other MMs are both later replacements. Stephen Gordon has discovered that there are dates moulded into the bakelite rims, but they are often worn away on well used cars

Re: Front Swivals and Stub Axle
Ive attached a pic of my MM swivel pins when stripped off for refurb. As Rob says they only have one steering arm hole and the stub axle is thinner. There is an article on the Series MM website about converting later swivel pins for use on MMs, this involves some machining. http://seriesmm.mmoc.org....

Re: MM steering wheel and badges
Paul, the pics below show the steering wheels as fitted. Colour seems to have been random. You see grey marble, beige marble, some almost tan in colour. Main thing is on the MM the centre of the wheel and steering column are painted brown. I must paint these on my own cars as both have later series ...

Paul, best option is probably Bryan Gosling in Club Spares. He is on the forum from time to time but if you email him directly he is more likely to get it.

Re: New Purchase!!
David Where did you get the plates made? Those are very handsome indeed. As I have the original paperwork for our 1960 Traveller (LHD Export), which my dad bought new and drove around the U.K. before bringing it to the States, I found the bit with the original registration number (never reissued). ...

Yes murrayminor, its noted on the tax book as declared manufactured in 1950, nothing about its previous number at all unfortunately.
Plates arrived, quite pleased with them.

Im not sure but I would guess that it is for one of those Smiths auxiliary type pumps that mount on top of the dynamo and run off the fan belt. I do have one of them but was never sure were the water supply would come from!!

1950 Series MM Tourer
The tourer came with no paperwork at all unfortunately. I sent off for a Heritage Certificate and with some help from Busguy did some other digging about the history of the number plate. Unfortunately DVLA will not let me keep the number and have issued me with an age related number, new plates are ...

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!
Ian, I think I recall BMCecosse recommending that approach, it may help but Id use it as a last resort, sidevalve pistons are about £400 a set these days!
Im currently building a sidevalve engine for my tourer, new rings and shells cost almost £250........ Better be a flying machine!

I had a diaphragm fitted in my everyday minor for about 15 years before it tore, so not complaining about it! The new one I bought to replace it from ESM did recommend drilling new holes in the frame.

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!
I believe Richard welded a bar to some old plugs and hung his engine for for some months before it gave way!!! Look for 'Plus Gas' and apply down all the stud holes (becoming hard to find, last lot I got off Amazon) Is there any space yet to tap in wooden wedges? Sometimes a sideways knock from a ru...

Re: Installing a windscreen
Russ, I always seal between the body and rubber and between the glass and rubber. When you fit the sealing strip it will push out any sealer that it doesnt need which is why its good that its easily cleaned off your new paint and shiney glass!!
