Re: Axle tramp

No, I haven't checked the halfshafts, but they haven't been touched in all the recent work.

Re: Axle tramp

Had the rear wheels up on the ramps tonight. Cardan shaft bolts are tight, no discernible play across the u/j at either end. There is backlash in the diff-I can turn the flange about 3mm relative to the diff casing. I think this is normal. There is no noticeable fore & aft movement of the cardan...

Must admit I haven't yet, the propshaft was off recently when I had the engine out. Would loose bolts cause it to knock? Or would it just rattle all the time?

Axle tramp

Hello world. I have recently rebuilt my engine and gearbox (see separate threads). It's a 1275, which has been bored +040", and the gearbox has had both main bearings renewed, and the needle bearings, as well as a new layshaft & 1st gear. There are a couple of issues with engine and gearbox...

So I guess the next step is to post a picture of that size?
Tried resizing the picture to 96x96, same result.

Re: How to post a photo

Thanks. This really shouldn't be such a faff. All it needs is a simple "how to" guide for adding a photo to a signature in the FAQ. If there is one, I can't see it. Did you find this? https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=68207 which links to this? https://www.mmoc...

Yet, if I link to YOUR profile pic, it displays it, and according to Explorer, that's 150x150 pixels! (I'll change it soon, don't worry!)

Tried that, I get :-

Your images may only be up to 265 pixels high.

According to the file info in Explorer, the image is 100x96 pixels.

Hi Neil. Here is the code from my signature if it helps. Note that the reference to the picture points to a picture posted elsewhere on the board. I presume it could also point to a picture hosted on a different server, although I have not tried. Code follows: Brian [img]http://www.mmoc.org.uk/Mess...

Re: How to post a photo

What exactly do you still need the answers to DavidW / Firedrake? The issues raised here relating to photo size have now been fixed, and details regarding how to attach a signature photo are included within the messageboard FAQ's ('FAQ' tab top left of page). Can you both please be a bit more speci...

Re: Road Height

Even then I don't think you'd get all the same measurements. Minors aren't built to the same standards of precision and tolerance as modern cars. Especially Travellers-the rear wings screw into the wood, I suspect a fair bit was done by eye.

Re: Road Height

I believe the same diagram is in the BMC workshop manual, I have a 1968 copy, which covers all models up to the 1098's. That implies to me that the same diagram is applicable to all models, though I would expect a slightly different ride height between different models due to differing weights.

Could a misaligned selector fork be the cause of the whine?

Re: Gearbox woes

Regarding the whine that you mention, it’s often the case with mixing gears old and new, teeth bed in together in gear sets. Not familiar with your other issues. That's what I thought at first, and I could understand that if I'd replaced 2nd and 3rd gear and/or the laygear, but I've only replaced 1...

Re: Gearbox woes

Well, the reassembled gearbox and rebuilt engine (see separate thread for engine) have been in the car, and it's done about 100 miles now. I have two concerns. 1) the gearbox whines in 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Seems ok in 4th, but I've not taken it above 50mph yet. 2) there's a rhythmic clicking sound, a...

It's actually taken nearly a year. The original head gasket failure happened on 9/9/2018!
It took me until Feb to get the engine out.
