Re: Unusual Breakdown
Breakdown cover is the back-up you need if you can't fix the car by the roadside. I have fixed my car by the side of the road on a number of occasions - and quicker than waiting for recovery. But if I can't fix it (like when my crankshaft broke :( ) it is a great relief to be rescued, especially in ...

Re: Unusual Breakdown
Oops - site has been down again! Anyway, thanks for the additional, interesting suggestions. As I said, a case not to be found in any manuals or text-books. What happened was, in replacing the points about six years ago, in the road outside my house, I mislaid/lost the flat washer under the screw ho...

Re: Brake Unions
The manual does say to "withdraw the lower half of the piston from the wheel cylinder" before removing the rear cylinders from the brake-plate......I didn't need to even do that to remove them, although one was rather reluctant to come out!

Re: Unusual Breakdown
Thanks for your replies folks. I can assure Mr. Ampwhu that I didn't have to lie in the road (just bend over the wing) and, indeed, it was not a fault with the dizzy as such. I will admit that the problem was a result of slight clumsiness on my part when I last fitted a new set of points about six y...

Unusual Breakdown
Here's a little puzzle for you folks :D On a recent drive, after about 20 miles, the engine started jerking and hesitating and I managed to get in a field gateway where it died. Thinking ignition problems I checked coil connections, HT leads etc. but found nothing wrong. On opening the dizzy I thoug...

Re: Brake Unions
Well then, from what you say I would guess that the cylinders you had to remove were copies of the original design - and not good copies.

Re: Headlining
I suspect NC make all the headlinings sold by various suppliers. But rather than NC telling you to take the issue up with ESM, ESM should be taking the issue up with NC, as they supplied the headlining in the first place! Mike's experience shows this is not an isolated incident. New parts should not...

Re: Brake Unions
"Not obvious in the manual that the half shafts need to be withdrawn and then there is just enough room to get the cylinder out...." But they don't need to be withdrawn! It can be a tight squeeze, but I replaced my rear cylinders recently and certainly did not have to remove the half shaf...

It might be worth removing the damper in any case to check/replenish/replace the damper oil whilst you are about it.....

Happy to be corrected, but I say 'yes'.....I think the 948 and 803 heads are pretty much the same.

'alloriginal1 owner' - If the starter turns over when you manually push in the switch, it might just be worth checking the nut on the connection to the switch. See here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=70475

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
Oh, I forgot to mention that the holes in the brackets are countersunk to take the door fitting screws, but not for the dome-headed screws that fix the bracket to the underside of the armrest itself....

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
John, approx dimensions as follows: A = 10" B = 4" C = 3" D = 1.5" Note that the line from C to where it meets D roughly follows the outer curve of the arm rest and that B on the underside of the arm rest is 3.5", giving a sloping angle from the upper part to the bottom part...

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
No worries John. Regards the couple of comments above about the brackets being bolted from inside the door frame, I confirm mine are simply screwed into the frame by self-tappers. I don't see how they could be bolted from inside the frame in any case, as the door trim panel would prevent this from b...
